February Teacher Lesson of the Month

Each month the students at RMS have the opportunity to nominate a teacher for the "Lesson of the Month." The goal is to celebrate teachers who go above and beyond to plan lessons that are engaging, hands on and creative. We know that our kids learn best when they are active in their learning. Last month, TLOM was awarded to 7th and 8th Grade Spanish Teacher, Ms. Miroff for a lesson she taught that was engaging and celebrated Black History Month. Mrs. Miroff's student said, "we did a scavenger hunt learning about African Americans and everything was in Spanish. It was fun and helped me learn more Spanish. It felt great to learn more about people who look like me and to see what they did for our country. I like the way Ms. Miroff teaches because she always explains the work thoroughly and if you have a question she is always there to help answer it. She really cares and always tries to make sure we are "ok." Great job Ms. Miroff!

End of Year Activities for 8th Grade

8th grade advisor, Ms. Karnavezos, is working with a committee to plan lost of fun "end of year activities" for our 8th grade students! Students, be on the lookout for emails and announcements on the morning news program with information about 8th grade t-shirts, moving up ceremony, end of year trip and formal! Information about these events will also be included in the upcoming editions of this newsletter!

GLSEN Workshops

In May, the non-for profit group GLSEN (Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network), will be working with our faculty in professional development sessions, pushing into some of our classes, and partnering with our Kaleidoscope Club to plan pride month activities. GLSEN works in conjunction with K-12 schools to ensure that LGBTQ students are able to learn and grow in a school environment free from bullying and harassment. We are always looking for ways to affirm the environment for all students and promote a positive school culture. More details on these events coming soon!
