Don't Miss Out on the GCS READS 20 Holiday Reading Challenge!
This year GCS will be offering a wonderful Reading Incentive to all students that read at least 300 minutes over the Holiday Break, December 19th - January 4th.
UNCG has partnered with GCS again this year to offer a FREE game ticket to all elementary students that meet their Holiday Reading goal. The students must return their logs to school before January 15th to be awarded a free ticket to the February 28th game. Family members will be offered tickets at a reduced discount.
Win Great Prizes!
Four iPad minis per region and six $25.00 gift cards to Barnes & Nobles per region will be given to lucky students that submit their Holiday Reading Challenge reading log in January when we return to school. The names of all students that complete their reading log will be entered into a drawing for one of the prizes.
All students who read 300 minutes receive a free UNCG basketball ticket.
6 Northern Region elementary students will win a Barnes and Noble gift card.
4 Northern Region students will win an iPad mini.
Reading and Literacy Resources from Guilford Parent Academy

These are fun, interactive and educational activities that you can do with your child from the comfort of your home or anywhere with Internet access. All GCS parents can access these for FREE through Guilford Parent Academy.
Bailey's Book House (grades pre-K-2)
Bailey hosts nine fun activities focused on reading and writing. Students increase phonemic awareness by playing with letters and building words.
Destination Reading Course I (grades K-1)
Beginning learners develop phonics and comprehension skills through a structured whole-part-whole approach utilizing a variety of texts and skill-building activities.
Destination Reading Course II (grades 2-3)
Growing learners read a variety of texts, building vocabulary, phonics and comprehension skills within a meaningful context.
Destination Reading Course III (grades 4-6)
Intermediate readers learn vocabulary and comprehension strategies to apply across the curriculum.
