The Roadrunner Report
The Rundown on Ridgewood Elementary - September 6, 2019
Our Mission Statement
Together with our community, Ridgewood Elementary School provides an education inspired by the attributes of the IB Learner Profile while fostering learner agency and encouraging meaningful action.
Principal Perspective - We are off to a great start!
As we enter the second week of school is it important to remember that routine, good sleep and healthy eating are vital for learning. Each week we balance our schedule with purposeful play, movement, music, technology, reading, writing and math. During these first weeks of school we are also working on community building, expectations and reading stamina.
Next week we have two opportunities for families to engage with our school. On Tuesday, our PTC meeting will serve as Volunteer Orientation, and childcare will be available for families. All are invited to attend at 6:30 in the Library. On Thursday, our annual Back to School night will cover an update on the PYP, Student Success Act and our new Health curriculum. Teachers will also share more about what students are learning in each grade level. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you here this week!
Our Morning Schedule:
8:00a.m. - Undercover area opens for supervision.
8:10-8:25 - Morning Mix Stations open. Students to go assigned grade level location.
*We switch locations on Tuesdays, so on Monday Kindergartners will go to the Library and starting on Tuesday they will go to the cafeteria.*
*Breakfast is open*
*On Fridays the Beepbeep store is open*
8:25 - Bell rings for students to line up and head to class. Exterior doors open.
8:30 - Students are in seats ready to learn!
Please make sure that students arrive by 8:25 so they have time to put their things away and be ready to learn by 8:30a.m.
Parents who wish to wait with their children until the 8:25 bell may do so in the under cover area. Kindergarten parents may continue to enter the building from 8:25-8:30 until Friday, September 13. After that time, all parents must enter through the front doors and get a visitor's badge.
Our Morning Mix is designed to give students the opportunity to regulate and prepare themselves for a day of learning. Each station has activities that help students focus either individually or collectively. After students have experienced all stations they will be allowed to choose the station that best helps them prepare for their day. Thanks for helping your students get to the right station in the morning!

You’re Invited to Ridgewood Elementary School’s Grandparents and Grandfriends Day on
Friday, September 13, 2019.
We look forward to hosting our Grandparents and Grandfriends for a day of learning!
Our event starts at 9:30am in the gym. Check in will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Guests should enter the building through the gym doors at the south end of the school (please do not enter through the front office). There will be a table there to check in and receive visitor badges.
Check in will go much faster if grandparents know their grandchildren’s teacher names (please complete below).
Parking at Ridgewood can be difficult. Please plan to carpool or drop off grandparents if possible. You may need to park in the neighborhood and walk to the school.
Please have grandparents bring a sack lunch if they would like to eat with their grandchildren.
The program concludes at the end of student lunches: 11:40 for Kinder, 11:50 for 1st grade, 12:00 for 2nd grade, 12:10 for 3rd, 12:20 for 4th and 12:30 for 5th grade.
