50 Years on Ash St
Day 2 of "5 days of Prospect's 50 year celebration" emails
Special Offering on Sunday
The same could be said of our church.
Not only have we realized two wonderful additions to our brick-and-mortar facility, I'm struck by the change to our church grounds. Playgrounds and a disk golf course of been added...and so many trees have been planted to add to the beauty of our campus!
The entire creek has been lined with trees and bushes. I can see the original "Dunlap family lilac tree" between the church and parsonage, right next the the place where the Applen family planted a memorial tree several years ago. The trees to the immediate West of the sanctuary have been replaced by our new fellowship hall, but in their place we have a wonderful prayer garden (South of the church) and beautiful landscaping at our entrance courtesy of the Moore family.
I was surprised to learn how much history there is in the trees of Prospect!
This past summer, disease got ahold of 18 trees on our church property. I was saddened to see the removal of these trees. Not only did we lose their ascetic beauty, we lost a little of our history. Many of you, I'm sure, remember when these trees were planted and you watched them grow to maturity...just as you watched children and grandchildren grow towards spiritual maturity within the walls of the church.
As we get ready to "remember our past by celebrating our future," we would like to replace some of these trees. Not only will these trees help revitalize the physical beauty of our church grounds, we see planting new trees as symbolic of rebirth and paying forward the vision of our past with an eye towards the next 50 years.
We would like to raise at least $2500 towards the goal of replanting trees at Prospect in the Spring. At least one will bear a plaque reminding the church and the Dunlap community of our vision to lift up Christ in the heart of Dunlap for another 50 years!
A basket will be placed in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday where we will collect gifts towards this special offering. If you are unable to join us on Sunday, we will (of course) welcome your contributions at any time!
