Bible Adventure

To parents and all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at Wellsville Elementary School:

Activity: Bible Adventure Program

Under the umbrella of JoyEl Ministries from Greencastle, PA, local Christian volunteers teach your children Bible stories and verses in living their lives the way that God would want them to live – with love and forgiveness in their hearts. All volunteers possess current clearances for working with children.

History

By state law children may be excused from school for one hour each week with the written permission of their parents. This program has been offered to students from the Wellsville Elementary School for over 30 years! It was formerly known as the Released Time Bible Program and was most recently taught on Thursdays over the lunch hour at Grace United Methodist Church.

2020

Due to COVID19, in an effort to not cause more conflict and interruption in the school day and in the interest of safety, the staff has decided not to hold the program in person during the school day time frame. But we still desire to teach your children about God’s amazing love and plan for their lives. Thus we are willing to teach them with a weekly video that will be sent by email to each of your homes. The video will be a maximum of 30 minutes in length. You are welcome to view it along with your children. It will be followed by a phone call from their listener who will guide them in answering questions about the lesson and in listening to their recitation of their weekly Bible verses. The decision on the designated time that this weekly phone call will take place will be established between the parent and listener. Once again parents are welcome and encouraged to be a part of this event.

Our Need for This to Happen

With the guideline of having less paperwork handled, we cannot distribute permission forms through the school this year. The school is assisting us by sending this letter and our permission form. Please complete the form and either scan and email or mail to Rosemary Firestone at the address provided. We will need your email address to send you the video weekly however. The Use of Face Masks

Students must have a face covering (mask or shield). School buses have disposable masks for students to put on as they board the bus, if needed. Should a student's mask become soiled during the school day, teachers and our school nurse have disposable masks to provide the students.

Families, NYCSD Health Services created a video for elementary students to understand the use of face masks when going out to community areas. Wearing face masks can be scary and intimidating for young children and we hope this video will help ease their concerns. Watch the video here.

#WESreads25

During the school year we challenge the students to set a goal to read 25 books by the end of May. Along the way we will offer encouragement and rewards for those who are tracking toward meeting the end-of-year goal. As students finish reading a book, they can record their progress at this link. Research shows that reading does amazing things for our brains, especially for children. Let's purpose together to read this year!

Families: Face Coverings While Visiting School

Dear Families,

Please know that as a public governmental K-12 entity, we are required to comply with the governor's mask mandate. When visiting our school, a face covering is required. We will provide one for you, if needed. If you are unable to comply, we would be pleased to accommodate a meeting with you in one of the following ways: we can offer a virtual meeting, or we can arrange a conference telephone call.

Wash Hands

One of the helpful things we can all do to stay healthy is to wash our hands. Here is a link to a video that was shown on WE-TV. Perhaps you'd like to watch it as a family and review these great tips!

Box Tops for Education

Wellsville Elementary collects Box Tops. We have a box in our lobby for the Box Tops all year long. During the months of October and February, our PTO organizes Box Top Drives where students can earn prizes for the greatest amount of Box Tops collected. WES PTO is able to "cash in" these Box Tops for playground balls, jump ropes, and other items to support our students at recess.

Amazon Smiles and WES

Did you know that you can help WES PTO every time you shop at Amazon? Through their Amazon Smiles program you can designate WES PTO to receive a percentage of your Amazon sales. This is super easy and does not impact any of your sale prices or discounts. Next time you shop Amazon, consider supporting WES as well!

Rutters Rewards for Schools

Rutters offers that you can link your rewards card to a school and a percentage of the sales you make will be donated to that school. This does not impact the price of gas or any rewards you may accrue. Please consider going online, through the app, or in the store to select Wellsville Elementary as your school of choice and help donate to Wellsville as you shop! The selection of school is only good for a quarter of the year. It's time to log back in and re-allocate your support for Wellsville!!

Meals at School

Students may bring a packed lunch or select to purchase a school prepared lunch. Monthly lunch menus and purchasing information can be found on the Food Service section of our Northern York County website. Please consider using the Meal Pay Plan (MyPayments Plus), which permits for online payments and balance alerts.

Location: Students will eat at their assigned learning space with hand-washing practices taking place before and after eating. The adult facilitator will follow disinfectant routines to ensure learning spaces remain clean.

School Lunches: Lunches purchased through the school will be boxed and delivered to each learning space.

Food Allergies: Please contact the school immediately with any food allergies that may require increased safe planning for your child. Although students will have their safe space for eating (6 feet separation), we wish to fully prepare to support your child.

Sanitizing procedure: An adult will sanitize the students’ desk before and after students eat lunch.

Birthday Treats/Snacks: Classroom activities or events will not include shared snacks; we recommend non-edible items for celebrations.
