How to Report Your Student Absent
To parents and all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at Wellsville Elementary School:
Activity: Bible Adventure Program
Under the umbrella of JoyEl Ministries from Greencastle, PA, local Christian volunteers teach your children Bible stories and verses in living their lives the way that God would want them to live – with love and forgiveness in their hearts. All volunteers possess current clearances for working with children.
By state law children may be excused from school for one hour each week with the written permission of their parents. This program has been offered to students from the Wellsville Elementary School for over 30 years! It was formerly known as the Released Time Bible Program and was most recently taught on Thursdays over the lunch hour at Grace United Methodist Church.
Due to COVID19, in an effort to not cause more conflict and interruption in the school day and in the interest of safety, the staff has decided not to hold the program in person during the school day time frame. But we still desire to teach your children about God’s amazing love and plan for their lives. Thus we are willing to teach them with a weekly video that will be sent by email to each of your homes. The video will be a maximum of 30 minutes in length. You are welcome to view it along with your children. It will be followed by a phone call from their listener who will guide them in answering questions about the lesson and in listening to their recitation of their weekly Bible verses. The decision on the designated time that this weekly phone call will take place will be established between the parent and listener. Once again parents are welcome and encouraged to be a part of this event.
Our Need for This to Happen
With the guideline of having less paperwork handled, we cannot distribute permission forms through the school this year. The school is assisting us by sending this letter and our permission form. Please complete the form and either scan and email or mail to Rosemary Firestone at the address provided. We will need your email address to send you the video weekly however. We have a lot of details to be worked out yet, but cannot get started with those until we have your student’s information and permission form. So please contact us AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Our target starting date will be Thursday, October 1st.

The Use of Face Masks
Students must have a face covering (mask or shield). School buses have disposable masks for students to put on as they board the bus, if needed. Should a student's mask become soiled during the school day, teachers and our school nurse have disposable masks to provide the students.
Families, NYCSD Health Services created a video for elementary students to understand the use of face masks when going out to community areas. Wearing face masks can be scary and intimidating for young children and we hope this video will help ease their concerns. Watch the video here.

Families: Face Coverings While Visiting School
Please know that as a public governmental K-12 entity, we are required to comply with the governor's mask mandate. When visiting our school, a face covering is required. We will provide one for you, if needed. If you are unable to comply, we would be pleased to accommodate a meeting with you in one of the following ways: we can offer a virtual meeting, or we can arrange a conference telephone call.

Box Tops for Education
Wellsville Elementary collects Box Tops. We have a box in our lobby for the Box Tops all year long. During the months of October and February, our PTO organizes Box Top Drives where students can earn prizes for the greatest amount of Box Tops collected. WES PTO is able to "cash in" these Box Tops for playground balls, jump ropes, and other items to support our students at recess.
