A COOL THING HAPPENED IN CLASS: AMERICAN HISTORY STORYTELLERS VISIT THE 8th GRADE

This year 8th grade students will be discussing the rich cultural traditions specific to West Virginia and celebrate the unique artistry that has evolved here in our Mountain State, including the oral tradition of sharing folklore and the storytelling pastime.

The Speak Series, affiliated with Shepherd University, hosts different story tellers each year and North Middle was proud to collaborate with Adam Booth to bring Sparky and Rhonda Rucker to our school Wednesday, September 14, 2022. The Ruckers brought together storytelling and folk music to create a wonderful experience for our students.

Sparky and Rhonda Rucker are American storytellers, musicians, and historians who have traveled all over the country sharing folk traditions with different schools and communities. You can find out more about them on their website https://sparkyandrhonda.com.

CHROMEBOOK CHECKS SEPTEMBER 26, 27, & 28: BRING YOUR COMPUTER & CHARGER TO SCHOOL!

Sixth grade will have Chromebook check on Monday, September 26th; seventh grade's will be on Tuesday, September 27th; and eighth grade's will be on Wednesday, September 28th. Every NMS student has been issued a school Chromebook for use this school year. It is important that students care for their devices because it is important to their learning and success in class. We use Chromebooks for DAILY assignments and testing.

Tips for Proper Chromebook Care:

1. Do NOT place stickers on school devices.

2. Do NOT write on school devices with marker or pencil.

3. DO carry school Chromebooks in protective cases or inside a backpack (do not then throw your backpack around with a device inside).

4. REPORT any damages or lost devices/ chargers to Mrs. Deavers, our Technology Integration Specialist, the SAME DAY if possible. Ms. Deavers is available at ALL student lunch periods (8th - in library, 6th & 7th - in the cafeteria).

5. CHARGE the school's device EVERY NIGHT so you are prepared for class the next school day.

Students who have multiple or large unpaid technology invoices for past devices will not be allowed to bring their devices home each night to protect them from incurring more charges. Please contact Ms. Deavers, 304-267-3540, if you have questions about an invoice or charge.
