CCPS Community:

IMPORTANT MASK UPDATE:

As we shared on Tuesday afternoon, the Maryland State Board voted to return the decision-making authority on masking back to local school systems. The next step in this process was for the Administrative, Executive, and Legislative Review Committee out of the state legislature to vote to end the emergency regulation. They met this afternoon and voted to rescind the emergency regulation effective immediately. Therefore, Cecil County Public Schools will move to a mask-optional model in all CCPS facilities effective immediately. View this Q&A document for more information.

On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of attending the historic signing and launching ceremony for the Elkton Colored School Museum and Cultural Center which is located at 205 Booth Street. The original structure served as the Elkton Colored School between 1903-1951 and was most recently used for the CCPS Maintenance & Operations offices and shop. It was a wonderful celebration and it was especially moving to see that a number of former students of the school attended and were recognized during the ceremony.

Summer School Update

We know that many families are planning their summer activities at this time. Last year, CCPS was provided with legislated funding for a robust summer program for all students to support learning loss from COVID-19. Those funds have not been provided to school systems this year, and therefore, our summer program will be available for identified students on a limited basis. More information is forthcoming.
