Preventing Infectious Diseases

3 steps for preventing infectious disease:

1.Eliminate the source of pathogen

Example: handle and dispose of body fluids appropriately

2. Keep food safe

-Food is something that gets spoil if its not the right temperature that its needed to be and when eaten it can cause sickness.

Example:cook food to the proper temperature

3.Protect yourself

-Taking care of yourself can help you a lot by preventing yourself from getting sick.

Example:Wash your hands frequently

Stop the spread!

1- don't spread germs to others-don't hug or kiss other people when you're sick

2-Don't spread germs to objects

3-Don't spread germs to food

4-Keep you immune system strong by following healthy habits

Food-borne disease-

Illness caused by food contaminated with bacteria, viruses, parasites, or toxins.

3 ways Infectious diseases can be transmitted:

1-Indirect Contact:infected person's skin or body fluids don't directly touch or enter the other persons through direct contact

Example:someone with a cold rubs their nose and then opens a door-cold virus is transmitted to the door knob.

2-Direct Contact-person to person contact

Example:touching an infected person's skin ,or when infected blood ,mucus,or other body fluids get inside another persons body.

3-Food poisoning:through contaminated food or water

Example:direct-spoiled food

indirect-person who prepares it.

Cold or flu:

Direct:touching or kissing

indirect:breathing in airborne particles containing the virus

Injection drug use vs. infectious disease

Injection drug is done by yourself and infectious disease was passed by an unknowing cause.

Hepatitis B and C: transmitted by blood

Direct-touching infected blood

Indirect-needles(drugs,vitamins,tattooing,piercing)
