This Week in Fourth Grade
- We had a fantastic week here in 4th grade!
- Here's some general info as we head into the final couple of weeks:
It is not too late to sign up to volunteer for Field Day! It is May 22rd, and it is going to be a blast! Let us know if you would like to join us for this fun-filled day of physical education.
Track Field Trip! Don’t forget to wear your ILead SRE shirt on Tuesday, May 16th for our field trip to the track. We are going rain or shine so be sure to gear up for weather. Also, don’t forget to pack a lunch and put on some sunscreen. We are going to be learning so much about the IMS! Sometimes students can get some autographs at the fence so please check with your kiddo about what can/can't be signed. Hats, autograph books, a white tee-shirt they bring along. etc.........probably shouldn't sign on the ILEAD shirts so they stay nice for next year.
All library books were due back to school yesterday May 11th. Each child will receive a raffle ticket if they have returned all books by Monday and be entered to win a new summer reading book or a gift card from Mrs. Towle. So remember to bring those books back if you have not done so already. I spoke with a few kiddos about specific books to look for over the weekend!
Don’t forget about our Famous Hoosier share Thursday, May 18th at 1:30.
Book Exchange! Information will go home next week about our fourth grade book exchange. We want to make sure that everyone has some fun new books to read this summer. Have your child bring in some gently used books to trade with their friends.

Math
We took the Unit 12 test today and some need a bit more time on Monday do finish! This leaves us just the right amount of time to do some end of the year review work!! We also have several kids reaching Rocket Math goals and mastering their facts. Way to go!!! We are so proud!! Please don’t forget to keep studying/reviewing those math facts to keep them fresh! Next year’s math teachers assume that incoming students have automatic recall of their math facts. Remember there are some great websites and free apps available for fact practice. Xtramath.org is a great one!
Indiana History
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway also sends out some great information on the history of the track. We will be working with this information and doing some activities to gear up for our visit!
Social Studies:
We are beginning chapter 5. Our big question for this chapter is: How does change bring opportunity? The students have really enjoyed working in their social studies groups to discuss the concepts we are learning about in class! J
Hoosier Project (Writing):
The Hoosier Share projects were great. I was so proud of the presenters this week!
Our Hoosier writing is also going great. We look forward to hearing about each other’s Hoosiers Next week! Please check with your student to make sure he/she is in good shape to present. In our class each kiddo is signed up for a day to share.

Upcoming Dates
NEXT WEEK
* Tuesday, May 16 - Last 4th grade field trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! This is always a fun trip that the kids look forward to! Students are being asked to wear their ilead shirts.....this makes it nice for keeping everyone together in the big venue. We have 4 chaperones with current background checks approved in our classroom going with us on this trip. If anyone else decides to meet up with us at lunchtime in the Grandstands you have to stay with your child's designated group please. That is the designated group leader for the day. Please also let me know if this is something you are planning to do as I need to be aware, thanks so much.
Thursday, May 18 Hoosier 4th Grade Open House 1:30-2:20 Please check into the office and then head down to the pod to see all of the amazing projects and the great writing!
* Monday, May 22 Track & Field Day! Mrs. Mercer would love your help so please get in touch if you’d like to volunteer! Thanks!
Thanks for all of your continued support as we head into a strong finish for your child’s 4th grade year! As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns.
