Livestock ID Sheets Due June 1!
All Livestock ID Sheets are DUE to the office by 4 PM, Thursday, June 1!
ID Sheets are needed for:
- Beef (Market, Breeding, Bucket Calf)
- Sheep (Market, Breeding)
- Goat (Market, Breeding, Dairy)
- Swine (Market, Breeding)
Animal ID Requirements

Market Beef/Hogs are required to have tags. Tags may be picked up from the Extension Office. Breeding Beef-ID Sheet with date of birth required. ID may be a tattoo or herd ID tag.
Breeding Swine-EID tag or Swine Tag. Available at Office.
ALL Sheep/Goats-Scrapies Tags Required. Available at Office. No ID Requirements for Poultry.
Rabbits-ID Sheet. Available at office or online.

State Fair Livestock Identification & Nomination Deadline
Any members planning to exhibit livestock at the Nebraska State Fair must complete the appropriate livestock identification and nomination requirements by June 15. This process makes an individual animal eligible for entry at the State Fair. Learn more at https://4h.unl.edu/state-fair-livestock-id
YQCA-Livestock Quality Assurance
All Livestock Exhibitors planning to show or sell MARKET LIVESTOCK (Market Swine, Market Beef, Market Sheep, Market Goats) at the Perkins County Fair and/or Nebraska State Fair are required to take YQCA (Youth for the Quality Care of Animals) every year. The YQCA site looks different this year! If you have used the site previously, your account information remains the same. Please note-YQCA is a requirement. There are different options to meet YQCA requirements:
· In-Person Training
o If you are not showing beyond Perkins County, simply call the office to register for one of the training dates-308-882-4731. All In-Person training times 10 AM-Noon.
o If you are showing beyond Perkins County (Nebraska State Fair, Aksarben, Denver Stock Show, Etc.) you will need to register for the training online, complete a pre survey, post survey, print your certificate with your YQCA number on it and bring it to the office. The registration cost is $3.00 to be paid online with a credit card. YQCA (yqcaprogram.org)
· Online Training
o Youth may take the YQCA class online. Go to YQCA (yqcaprogram.org) and log in. Make sure to take the online class that matches the youth’s 4-H age (as of January 1, 2023). When the online class has been passed, print the certificate with the YQCA number and bring it to the office.
· Test Out Option
o Testing out is available online only. If you test out, please bring the certificate to the office.

State Horse Expo
- FAMILIES-ONLINE ENTRIES FOR STATE HORSE ARE DUE THURSDAY, JUNE 1, BY 4 pm (MT).

To enter the Fonner Park State 4-H Horse Show, all youth must complete the Horsemanship Advancement Level requirements, horse identification process, and entry process by 5:00 p.m.(CENTRAL TIME) on June 1. See details below. No late entries will be accepted. No refunds will be given. If youth enter classes for which they are no eligible or if youth decide not to participate, their entry fees will be forfeited. Before beginning, please review all the State 4-H Horse Show rules and the current Nebraska 4-H Horse Show and Judging Guide.
No Till on the Plains-Wine Glass Field Day, July 20!
No-till on the Plains, a 501c3 non-profit educational organization, whose mission is to provide education and networking on agricultural production systems that model nature, will be hosting a field day in Southwest Nebraska.
The Field Day is set for Tuesday, June 20 at the Wine Glass Ranch, 33211 749 Road, Imperial, NE 69033.
Registration begins at 8 AM, MST, with the program kicking off at 9 AM. Presenters include Logan Pribbeno— “Diversifying Row Crop Acres with Animal Impact”, Drew Olson—Q&A Farmer/Rancher Economics—"What We’ve Learned”, Steve Tucker—“Always Have a Plan B” Limited Moisture and Diversity, and Candy Thomas, NRCS, Regional Soil Health Specialist—Rainfall Simulator, Aggregate Stability, Nutrient, and Water Efficiency.
Lunch will conclude the morning session before attendees make their way to field sites of various seeded crops and observe soil resource concerns. Weather permitting, we will observe a cool season spring seeded crop, C4 summer grazing crop, as well as native range.
Early bird registration of $30 is required by June 13, after that it increases to $40 and there is a cap.

Clover Kid Paver Workshop
Call in to register for the Clover Kid Day Camp!
We will learn about ladybugs and watermelons and create a paver to enter at the fair and one to take home! Open to all Clover Kids.

4-H T-Shirt Workshop
Have some fun designing two different t-shirts using different techniques! Make as shirt as unique as you are using tye-dye and bleach out methods. All supplies and snacks provided.

High School students (ages 14-18)! We are inviting you to join us for the 4-H Youth Leadership Conference, June 19-21, 2023, at Camp Comeca in Cozad, NE. Learn more and register at 4h.unl.edu/leadership-conference by June 4th to claim your spot in this amazing experience. The cost for YLC will be $250. We’ll be taking advantage of some traditional camp activities while integrating leadership workshops, speakers, and an overall topic of influencing the future through leadership to bring together and develop the leaders of Nebraska 4-H!
Online Horticulture Judging Contest
The Nebraska 4-H Online Horticulture Judging Contest provides youth an opportunity to test their knowledge of growing fruits, vegetables, flowers, and ornamental plants. The contest is open to all youth, as well as adults. Youth do not need to be enrolled 4-H members to participate. The contest will be available from 8:00 AM on Friday, June 2, 2023, through 8:00 AM on Friday, June 16, 2023.

Livestock Achievement Program
- The Livestock Achievement Program is an advanced opportunity for youth interested in diving deeper into and expanding upon their current livestock project and establishing themselves as leaders in their project area. The program encourages youth to engage in a variety of activities related to their project and recognizes Members of Excellence across all 4-H livestock project areas. All youth aged 14 and 15 who work on a farm or
ranch other than their own MUST be certified through a
Hazardous Occupations Course to obtain a Farm Husbandry

Agronomy Youth Field Day
Annual Agronomy Youth Field Day, June 27, 2023 in Curtis, NE at NCTA campus.
Open statewide to ALL youth ages 9-18 as of 1/1/23. Parents and adults are welcome! FREE event with lunch provided by Ag Valley Coop and water bottles by Farm Credit.
Hands on activities with 2 different age tracts to learn how agriculture is changing with precision technology; benefits of cover crops; how to tell if soil is healthy; explore plant growth by dissecting plants; understand importance of weeds & herbicide application technology; how to scout crops for insects; & fly a miniature drone! Learn from local Nebraska Extension & Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture Crop & Water Educators/Researchers, Bayer Crop Scientists & the new Nebraska Extension Digital Ag Educator.
