Holidays

We have a lot of exciting events happening in the next few weeks. We will be, taking a ride on the Polar Express, attending a sing-a-long, traveling around the world to learn about holidays in other countries, and wearing our pajamas to school- just to name a few! You will be receiving specific information pertaining to each of these activities. You will be asked to send in a couple items if you are able (one supply for our gingerbread house construction, and a wrapped book for our book exchange). If you are unable to send in any of these requested items, please let me know. I am happy to supply extras if necessary. We want everyone to be able to participate in our fun activities. We will also need volunteers for our Holidays Around the World Day, our Polar Express Day (morning only), and gingerbread house construction. Please contact Meredith Cully (ameredithclark@hotmail.com or 767-7676) if you are able to help or donate additional items.

Giving Tree

With the December holiday season approaching, we realize that times may be tough for some of our Mustang families. The Midway Care Team organizes a giving tree to help families in need. If you are interested in this program, please call the front office for more information at 821-0300. The deadline will be December 10th.

Scholastic Book Fair

We are looking forward to the Scholastic Book Fair next week. Don't forget to stop by and pick up some Christmas gifts! Please let me know with an email or a note if you send money with your child. I will be sure they have a chance to visit the book fair that day.

    Special Book Fair Events:

      • Tuesday, 12/8: Grits for Grands (A-L) from 7:00 - 8:00 am
      • Wednesday, 12/9: Grits for Grands (M-Z) from 7:00 - 8:00 am
      • Thursday, 12/10 : Family Night from 4:45 - 6:15 pm

    Reading Counts

Scholastic Reading Counts is our school-wide Reading Comprehension program. Don't forget to have your child take several Reading Counts tests each week. Once your child is comfortable taking these tests independently, he/she can go to the library and take tests at school. This is a wonderful way for students to practice reading for comprehension and referring back to the text. Usernames and passwords are located in the Reading Log section of the binder. Set a Reading Counts goal for your child and try to meet it as a special challenge! If you have misplaced it or if you have any questions regarding Reading Counts, please contact me and I will help!

    First In Math

We have had several days where we have had NO First in Math Players of the Day! First in Math is an exceptional way to practice those math skills in which students are struggling or to push students into more advanced math if they are ready. Just 10 minutes each day is a great addition to your child's first grade curriculum!
