School Closure & Board of Education Update
Dear MVR-III Families,
Last evening, the Board of Education voted to close all MVR-III schools on January 24th and 25th for all students and staff, to be made up at a later date. The district has been experiencing a significant increase in staff and student absences, causing an undeniable stress on our staff, school system, and the district’s ability to provide the consistent quality of instruction that we and our families expect. The closing will provide students and staff the needed time to recover from illness. An updated 2021-22 school year calendar will be sent to parents once the make-up dates have been determined. Due to the closing, there will be limited school activities.
- SACC will be closed on January 24th and January 25th
- Scheduled extra-curricular activities may continue
- Mid-Trimester Parent-Teacher Conferences will be rescheduled for Jan. 26-28th
- Extra meals will be provided to students signed up for the Backpack Program. Other families needing additional meals should contact the school counselor.
As a reminder, schools will also be closed on Friday, January 28th. This is a previously scheduled Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Day for students on Friday, January 28th for Parent-Teacher Conference Week. What does Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) mean? Think of AMI Days as an independent learning day for students when they are not at school. An AMI day allows students to continue with learning through skill practice and review when students are not in school for regular instruction. Students will have the opportunity for skill review and practice through our electronic learning systems or conventional paper lessons. Please ask your child(ren) what AMI work they have for January 28th.
Lastly, upon review of the COVID Response Plan, parent and staff survey responses from last month, and the increased COVID positivity data within school buildings, the Board of Education voted to resume masking for all students, staff, and visitors for a 10-day period when an individual building moves to Orange Status. The protocol of masking in Orange Status will go into effect Wednesday, January 26th. The Board of Education also voted to discontinue contact tracing school exposures, but will provide building level notification of COVID cases for students and staff in grades 5-12th and a classroom notification for students and staff in grades Prek-4th. A copy of the updated MVR-III COVID Response Plan can be found on the district website.
Thank you for your support and understanding as we work through the challenges of these unprecedented times.

[To clarify: Monday and Tuesday ARE NO LEARNING DAYS!]
Below is a list of additional resources from Mrs. Reed, our librarian, for Friday activities:
Valentine's Day - FYI
I am allowing valentines to be passed out within the class but the boxes or organization of how valentines are passed out is up to the teacher.
Monday, February 14th, is still a day of learning.
To clarify - there will be no class party, no food, or outside volunteers needed.
I am sure teachers will have fun valentines theme learning activities and valentines are allowed to be passed out.
Let me know if you have any questions.
