PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Grandparent's Day is tomorrow and we are excited to welcome about 400 grandparents to our school for a few hours. It is crazy busy but oh so much excitement.
Conferences and report cards are just around the corner. I can't believe I just wrote that. With that means testing and communication. Our report cards are based on standards and learning targets. The teachers will be letting you know how your child is doing according to our learning targets for each subject area. Conferences are a time to for you to chat with your child's teacher about how the beginning of the school year is going and what are some goals for the year. Please look for a note coming home about going online to sign up for a conference time on November 2nd.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have about your child or school.
Mrs. Michalski

Library News
October is 'Keeping Kids Safe Online' Month in Wisconsin.
The IMC wants to remind families that we have a collection of Internet Safety resources on our District Library Media Center website, on the Internet Safety / Digital Citizenship link.
Also accessible is a new website from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), in partnership with the Department of Justice (DOJ), to create awareness about Internet Safety. This site provides a compilation of resources, tools, and information to empower all stakeholders (students, teachers, parents, and administrators) to make safe, smart and ethical decisions about technology use. Over the last few years, there has been a shift from 'acceptable' to 'responsible' use of digital resources. This shift is a change in expectation for use of technology in and out of the classroom. Keeping kids safe online is a fundamental goal of school districts, the Wisconsin Digital Learning Plan, and the Wisconsin Information and Technology Literacy Standards. Technology is a way of life for today's students and we all need to be sure we support their safe and responsible use of digital resources. To access this website, go to: https://dpi.wi.gov/internet-safety
Food Service Notes
A Note From Food Service…
A child’s eligibility status from the previous school year is carried into the current school year for up to 30 days, beginning on the first day of school, or until a new eligibility determination is made, whichever comes first. If no new application is submitted and eligibility is not established through direct certification by the end of the 30-day carryover period, a child’s eligibility for free or reduced price meals expires and the student then goes to the normal paid rate.
So if you haven't filled out a current free/reduced application, please take the time to fill it out for this school year.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact Amanda Sonnenburg at 920-848-4466 ext. 3 or email at amanda.sonnenburg@of-ps.org.

FREE Flu Shots
Oconto County Public Health will visit Abrams Elementary School on Monday 10/16/17 to offer FREE flu shots to all students in Early Childhood (EC)-5th grade.
If your child did not bring the consent forms home for the FREE flu shots, go to www.ocph.info to download a form and find more information on the flu shot.
CDC recommends a flu shot for everyone 6 months and older. Flu is not just a bad cold; it’s a serious illness that can lead to pneumonia and other complications. The symptoms can last for up to two weeks and include: fever, cough, sore throat, headache, severe body aches, chills, runny or stuffy nose, extreme exhaustion, and sometimes in children diarrhea and vomiting. While your child may be nervous to receive a shot at school, Oconto County Public Health staff will work together to make your child as comfortable as possible.
Getting the flu shot every year is your best protection against the flu! You can also stay healthy by washing your hands frequently, covering your cough and staying home when you are sick. Please call Oconto County Public Health with questions at 920-834-7000.
