The Lion's Share
November 10, 2017
Message from the Principal:
On Thursday, Settler's Point had one of my favorite assemblies. Fourth grade did an amazing job at our annual Veteran's Day performance. The teachers did a fantastic job preparing the students, and the students "knocked it out of the park." I would also like to thank the veterans that were able to attend as our guests of honor. On behalf of Settler's Point Elementary, I would like to thank all of our veterans for your selfless service and sacrifice to keep us safe.
This week our PTSO and Dads' Club are hosting our annual Fall Festival. This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. Every dollar of this event goes directly to our teacher's classrooms. Each ticket earned by our teachers represents a quarter. So if Mrs. Hughes earns $50, she will reimbursed that amount by the PTSO for any classroom supplies. Thank you in advance for your attendance and support of this event!
It is my job to serve the parents, students, and staff of Settler's Point. If there is anything I can do to help, please feel free to reach out to me.

Fifth Grade Spotlight
5th graders have been working so hard in math with place value! They had a fun class seeing visually the values in our ones, tenths, and hundredths places while using our manipulatives to actually build numbers like 2.06, 4.39, 3.67, etc...
Each month fifth grade reads, analyzes, and studies a genre (a type) of writing. Students are then expected to turn in a project on the last day of the month that exhibits this genre. September's Genre Project was Realistic Fiction and the students turned in a creative Story Map with pictures and a summary. October's Genre Project was Mystery and the students turned in a creative Mural with a summary. November is right around the corner and students will be reading Folklore (a legend, fable, or myth) and creating a 3-D Art Project using a medium of their choice (i.e., clay, paper mache, salt dough, etc.)
Second Grade Spotlight
Additionally, Ms. Wilson's class did a "Digital Breakout" about the first Thanksgiving. Essentially this is an electronic "Escape the Room" scavenger hunt.
