CSD Robotics Teams Competing Regionally
Cedarbrook’s FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics team Really...Simple Machines qualified for the quarterfinals and finished tied for eighth this past weekend at the Philadelphia Qualifying Tournament of the Pennsylvania FIRST Tech Challenge at Central High School. Facing mostly high school teams, the team competed in the challenge Relic Recovery. Following a sports model, FIRST® Tech Challenge teams design, build, program, and operate robots of their own design to play a floor game in an alliance format. Guided by adult Coaches and Mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas.
In December, the Myers Machines, competing against mostly older teams, received the Presentation Award at a Penn FIRST Lego League (FLL) qualifier at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy to advance to the FLL regional championship February 10 at Irvine Auditorium at the University of Pennsylvania. This year’s Lego League challenge is hydrodynamics - how to find, transport, use or dispose of water and includes utilizing mechanical design, programming, project research, and presentation skills in a high stress environment.
