Introduction
We have finished another busy month at Palmyra! The Jog-A-Thon was a great success and fun for all! Thank you to everyone who supported the Palmyra PTA with donations. These funds will help to ensure that we continue all of the great learning experiences and programs that PTA supports at Palmyra! As we move into the month of May, state testing will take place for our 3rd - 6th grade students. Specific schedules will be sent home with students.
School Technology Survey
Please take a few minutes to take a Technology Survey from the Orange Unified School District. It will help us make decisions for future technology purchases.
Cinco de Mayo By: Jazmin Medina & Samantha Suarez (written for "The Palmyra Paper" by 4th grade students)
What is Cinco de Mayo? Cinco de Mayo (the 5th of May) is a Mexican celebration. It is usually confused with the Mexican Independence Day which is on September 16th. It is a big celebration because the Mexican army won a battle against France. They won the war of Puebla on Cinco de Mayo. The Mexican army had weak weapons, so they felt happy that they won. The victory of Puebla has become a symbol for the Mexican culture. The biggest Cinco de Mayo celebration is held in Puebla where the Mexican army fought. In the same location, there is a parade. Many floats are brightly colored in the parade. People there dress like warriors on both sides and reenact the battle. There are also lots of piñatas filled of sweets and goodies. Every year, singers and dancers from all over Mexico come together to celebrate.
