INTRODUCING THE WRITER
Mark Haddon is a well known writer, born on 26th September 1962. He’s mostly known for his book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which brought him not only fame but also a nice number of awards.
PERSONAL LIFE
He was raised by an architect. Attending Uppingham school, he later continued his studies on Merton College, where he studied English. After university he worked with disabled people and as an illustrator for magazines and newspapers. He now lives in Oxford with his wife and two kids.
WRITING
His first children’s book,Gilbert’s Gobstopper was written in 1987. This book was followed by many others, often self-ilustrated. Six years later, he wrote his first book in his comical children’s book series, Agent Z. One of the books was later adapted into sitcom. He also wrote the screenplay for the BBC television adaptation of Fungus the Bogeyman and television drama Coming Down the Mountain. However, his biggest achievement writing-wise is definitely The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. The book was originally written for adults but it later became considered as both, children and adult one.

So far, he’s won 18 awards including British Book Awards- Book of the Year, Whitbread Novel Award and British Book Awards- Children's Book of the Year. Almost all of them were because The Curious Incident of the Dog.

- When Haddon was a child, he wanted to be a palaeoanthropologist and discover Australopithecus bones in Kenya.
- He planned to study math and philosophy in college before he discovered English literature.
