Fun With Firsties
April 4, 2016
Curriculum Highlights
Language Arts-This week we will begin Unit 4 in More Adventures of the Superkids. We will read two stories, Play Ball! and Rex King's Visit. While reading, we will summarize, determine cause and effect, and recognize plot by identifying beginning, middle, and end. We have a new list of memory words and spelling patterns as well. Our spelling test will take place next week, but start practicing those words at home now!
Math-We will begin Topic 11 in our math curriculum. In this topic we will learn a variety of strategies as we subtract with tens and ones.
Social Studies-We had a great time constructing a community out of tissue boxes before Easter vacation! We are now ready to assemble the community in the technology classroom. We will then be able to write some task cards for the Bee Bots so that they will be able to travel through our handmade community.

Faith in First
With the celebration of Easter Sunday comes the start of the liturgical season of Easter. We will resume our religion lessons in our Call To Faith books.
First Grade Musical
Dear First Grade Parents,
As part of our First Grade Service Learning Project the first graders will perform a play celebrating some of our friendly neighborhood helpers in our community. FNH introduces students to the many helpful people in their community. Through simple, catchy songs and brief dialogue, students learn about firefighters, mail carriers, grocers, dentists and many more who work every day to make their neighborhood a better place to live.
The performance date will be Wednesday, May 11th at 9:05 am. Save the date! Look for flyer soon.
Thank you. ~Kay Bowen
