Edward TItchener
Titchener was a mentee of Wilhelm Wundt, the father of Structuralism. Structuralism was the first school of thought, and it focused on breaking down mental processes into basic components.
- each basic component makes up a complex one
- complex components correlate into physical ideas.
He attempted to classify structures of the mind into elements and used introspection to examine one's own conscious thoughts
He concluded 3 types of elements consulting conscious experience:
- Sensation - Elements of perception
- Images - Elements of ideas
- Affections - Elements of emotions
