November Word of the Month: Empathy
As we move into November, we move on to our next Kiwanis Club ‘Terrific Kid’ word: empathy.
Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. We will be spending time in the classrooms learning more about being empathetic, but wouldn’t it be fun to continue your empathetic learning at home too? Below you will find a fun activity to do as a family while you watch TV or a movie. Use your empathy skills to identify how the different characters feel throughout the program you are watching and take a few minutes to discuss the questions provided.Rights & Responsibilities
Last week, we launched our PSD 2020-21 Handbook and Rights and Responsibilities Acknowledgement Form via DocuSign. This form is required for all Peninsula School District students.
By now, you should have received a request to review the documents and submit electronic signatures. Please note that this is a 2-part process: Once a parent signs and submits the form, it will be automatically forwarded to the student’s district email account (accessed through his/her student portal). The student must sign and submit the form before the required document can be recorded as complete.
As we navigate this new environment and continue to observe safety precautions, we continue to look for ways to add security and convenience to our procedures and interactions. We value your partnership and appreciate your assistance in getting these forms completed as soon as possible.

Elementary STEM Curriculum Adoption Preview
After a year of collaborative work, piloting, and reviewing data, the Elementary STEM Adoption Committee has recommended STEMscopes as our new K-5 classroom STEM curriculum. Prior to final board approval, we are providing our school community an opportunity to preview the curriculum and provide feedback.
Please preview materials here. Toward the bottom of the page, there is a link to a feedback form. We will also host a virtual Q&A session with K-12 STEM Instructional Facilitator, Ashley Ortenzo, on Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. Questions and comments can also be submitted by email. We look forward to hearing your feedback.
School Safety
When you fill out the Student Health Screening Attestation Form every morning prior to school, please understand that if you are considering checking the box “yes”, then you need to keep your child at home until you are able to answer “no”.
If you have questions and are not sure what to do, please contact Mr. Heistand, heistandr@psd401.net or 253-530-1102 or our Nurse Nanci Powell powelln@psd401.net or 253-530-1124.
Thank you for your understanding and working together to keep everyone safe.
