Knox News!
April 2019
Welcome to April!
Hello Knox Families!
Welcome back from Spring Break. I hope that everyone had a restful week off. We have about 10 weeks left in the school year and a lot of exciting things going on. During the month of March, our school site was awarded another $30,000 professional development grant in mathematics. This school year, Knox has received over $137,000 in grant funding!
During the month of March, we celebrated Read Across America by reading to the students at Baker Elementary. Our ASB also supported the students at Chavez Elementary with their annual march.
We also finished up our school-wide read aloud of Milkweed and all students had the opportunity to participate in the Butterfly Project. Our 700 ceramic butterflies will soon be displayed in the auditorium, as a memorial to the children that lost their lives during the Holocaust.
This month our state SBAC testing begins. Please see the links below for our testing schedule and for the online practice test. It is important that students get a good night's rest and arrive on time for breakfast each day of testing.
8th grade parents, this is a reminder that in order for your student to participate in the Knox promotion ceremony, they must be passing all of their classes on June 4th at 4pm in Power School.

Parent's Guide to Guided Reading
All Knox students will have nightly math homework. Homework is assigned from a math packet that is given to the students at the start of each chapter. Math tutoring is EVERY Tuesday in room S4 from 3:10-4:10. The late bus departs at 4:15 pm.
Please check your child's planner nightly. They should be recording their homework assignments there.
Please log into Power School Parent Portal to monitor your student's grades.
Thank you for all of your support and collaboration!
Sincerely,
Principal Potter

English Language Arts Update
Our Knox students are reading, reading, reading! All students have had a chance to visit the new library and have checked out independent reading books. Our students are VERY excited about all of the new books available in the library. All students should be reading at home for 20 minutes a night.
We encourage all students to read for 20 minutes a night independently. Students can check out books during Advisory or lunch time.
Ms. Lapp has also started a book club before school on Thursdays. The students are starting their next novel now. Please reach out to Ms. Lapp if you would like your student to take part in this special opportunity (elapp@sandi.net).
To support literacy at home, read articles together with your child online:
