A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents:
Happy November! Please make sure you are aware of some upcoming teacher workdays / School Holidays which are listed the calendar above. For the next 3 weeks, students have at least one day off per week. This is a great month to work on improving grades because there is more time at home to study and review notes and assignments. Report cards will be issued on November 8 but grades can be seen in Parent Assist now.
I’ve had several questions from students and parents about Measures of Student Learning tests (MSLs). The State is now calling them “Common Exams.” Common exams will be given at the end of the semester and will count for the 25% of the exam grade for selected classes. As we receive information from the State, I will make sure you and our students are informed.
This weekend will be packed with events and opportunities to support our students and our school. The Cross Country teams (both girls and boys) will run in the State Finals on Saturday in Kernersville. The football team will play in the first round of the state playoffs on Friday night at East Forsyth High School. Our men’s soccer team will play in the 2nd round of the state playoffs at Myers Park on Saturday afternoon. And, our Pride of Providence Band will participate in Band Beat on Saturday which is a highly intense competition featuring excellent bands from across the region. Good luck to all and I look forward to reporting about the great results next week.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Harrill

COLLEGE AND CAREER COUNSELING
Parents of 9th graders
There will be one more chance for Freshmen to get their Naviance Family Connection login information. Freshmen who did not receive their Naviance forms during the last homeroom will receive them during the next homeroom on Thursday, November 8. Parents - ask your children to show you how to use their Naviance
accounts (look for the lime green sheet with instructions). We encourage all students to set up their Naviance accounts now so they can:
Take career assessments and explore potential careers
Explore colleges and track transcript and college recommendation requests
Receive important updates from the Counseling Department (parents can receive them too)
See your cumulative, weighted GPA (10 – 12 graders)
Juniors
Juniors – it’s time to start thinking about taking college entrance exams. Colleges will accept either SAT or ACT scores and many “superscore” them, meaning they will take the highest score from each section from different tests. For information on test dates, where to register, and the difference between the ACT and SAT, visit our web page http://phscollegecareercenter.cmswiki.wikispaces.net/SAT+%26+ACT. Note that all juniors will be taking the ACT during the school day on Tuesday, March 5. (It is free to students and can be sent to colleges!).
