WELCOME FROM DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS, ROBERT FOREMAN
Bronco Fans,
What a GREAT fall sports season for our Athletic Programs!
The Lady Bronco Softball Team finished their season with a (22-10) record and a trip to the state tournament. Volleyball had a remarkable season finishing with a (32-7) record and earning the 6A State Runner-Up Trophy. Girls Cross Country qualified for the State Cross Country Meet for the 25th consecutive year and our Boys Cross Country won the 6A State Championship. Gabe Simonsen led the way earning his third consecutive individual State Title. This past Friday night the Bronco Football Team defeated the Yukon Millers in the first round of the playoffs 42-21. Finally, our Cheer Team qualified for the Game Day State Competition making it to the finals and finishing 6th.
Our Winter Sports look to continue this success as they begin their seasons. Swimming is off to a great start with a school-record already broken by AJ Walswick in the 200 IM. Our Boys and Girls Basketball Teams have high expectations entering the season as both programs have a wealth of young talent returning. Wrestling is ready to take the next step in their journey as they attempt to bring home the second State Championship in school history. The wrestling team is led by Nationally Ranked wrestlers Tate Picklo (#1 at 195lbs) John Wiley (#5 at 160lbs) Tucker Owens (#10 at 126lbs) and Christian Rowland (#60 at 285lbs) as well as several others who plan on competing for individual state titles.
As always, we hope you continue to support our student-athletes as they represent Mustang in a first-class manner in all of their endeavors.
Go Broncos!

BOYS BASKETBALL PREVIEW
A year of experience under the new coaching staff and a deep bench has the boys basketball team and coaching staff excited for the upcoming season. Over the summer months two players received offers to play at the next level. Junior Ethan Scott received offers from Oklahoma Christian and Oklahoma Baptist University and Sophomore Jacobe Johnson received offers from the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University and Texas Christian University along with multiple big time division one football offers. These two along with Keegan Bass and Jacob Henderson played a lot of minutes last year. Seniors CJ Young, Miguel Ealom and Ronnie Lopez worked hard in the off season and will provide the team with great leadership and play important roles for the team on the court as well. To really provide the depth that Coach Hodges spoke about, Kaden Bogard, Austin Smith, Reese Strange, Bryson Sharp and Elliot Daughtery are guys that the coaching staff will look at to step up for them this year and provide quality minutes each game.
Coach Hodges has this to say about this year's team, "We like the competitive nature of our team and how they get along on and off the court. It's been fun over the last year to watch them grow as young men and players. We've worked extremely hard in the weight room this year to improve our strength and athleticism. This is a high IQ team that is really playing well together in practice. Our goal is always to be the best version of ourselves everyday. This group has great attitude and effort, and we feel once we really get our whole team together we could be a tough team to beat. We are excited about our journey."

GIRLS BASKETBALL PREVIEW
The Lady Broncos have been working hard during the off season with the goal to improve on last year's season. They have also been working on the mental aspect of the game by reading the book "Raise Your Game". This is helping the players change from a mind set of “WE HAVE TO” to “WE GET TO” and during these challenging times this can go a long way. They are thankful to be able to practice and participate in the sport they all enjoy.
Over the summer months Talia Pogi received an offer from Arkansas State University and Karley Johnson committed to the University of Arkansas. Several college coaches have been visiting practices this fall and it won't be long before other offers and commitments come from this talented group. The Lady Broncos have 4 returning players from last year along with 2 move-ins who will add a lot to the team. The junior class is one of the best in the state. Depending on their development over the next couple of months, there are a number of freshmen that could make an immediate impact as well. There is depth in the Lady Bronco program, much like in the boys program.
Coach Bass says, " If we maintain an atmosphere of unselfishness and high-energy play, we have a chance to be very successful this year. We have more depth, athleticism, and overall talent than we did last year, and we should be in the hunt for a state title. Mind on the Goal, Heart on the Why #GID."
Mission Statement: Lady Broncos basketball is about empowering young ladies to compete relentlessly, encourage others, and dedicate themselves to HARDWORK on and off the court every single day.

SWIMMING PREVIEW
Unfortunately, with the pandemic and to comply with the strict guidelines of quarantine the swim team didn't have the opportunity to work together last spring or this summer. When school began they were extremely excited to get back in the pool.
The captains and leaders have been great and shown a lot of flexibility and patience with themselves and the rest of the team throughout these challenges. They not only work on their individual improvement but they also support the rest of the team. They take time to teach skills they have mastered with the new and less experienced swimmers. Being chosen by their peers, they are respected and valued by the team.
There are 36 returning athletes from last year's swim team. The expectation from the coaching staff is to improve on their times from last season and try new events to become all around swimmers. These swimmers are expected to represent Mustang Athletics with a level of maturity and respect. There are 12 new athletes. The rookies are expected to learn the basics of all 4 strokes and post times in several different events.
Our team has a good mixture of experience and youth. Coach Berndt says this, "We are expecting to compete in all three relays with our boys this year and to continue to take our girls to State. We won the "Non-Pool" championship last year and plan on taking that honor again this year. As always we expect our swimmers to improve their time and technique."

WRESTLING PREVIEW
Shelton Chastain is a returning State Placer. Tucker Owens is a 3x State Finalist and 2x State Champ and is ranked # 10 in the USA. Jaston Jackson is a returning State Qualifier. Keegan Luton is a 2x State Placer. Bam West is a Returning State Placer. John Wiley is a returning 2x State Champ and Ranked #4 in the USA. Brannigan Reyes is a 2x State Qualifier. Tate Picklo is a returning 3x State Finalist and 2x State Champ. He is ranked #1 in the USA. Jack Kitchingham is a returning State Finalist. Christian Rowland is a returning State Placer. I expect this team to perform to their standard."
If all of that isn't enough to prove this team is a contender, earlier this year Tate Picklo was invited to Who’s Number One. It is a tournament to see who is the best high school wrestler in the country. They wrestle the #1 vs. #2 ranked kid in the country. Tate won and is now the #1 - 195 pound High School Wrestler in the country. We are proud of the accomplishments of this group and can't wait to see Tate and his teammates compete this year.
