RMS Monday Message

March 21, 2022

Spring at RMS!

The weather is getting nicer and we are excited to get outside more! Outdoor dining during lunch will be opening up soon. As the third quarter comes to an end, students should make it a priority to connect with their teachers during extra help sessions and consider attending IRP if they are struggling. Modified sports begin this week. We are happy to see our junior bulldogs back on the courts and the fields. End of year activities for 8th graders are still in the planning stages. As more information becomes available we will communicate it with families.

War in Ukraine

This past week, BCSD in collaboration with Dutchess County, collected items to assist in the humanitarian relief effort in Ukraine. We plan to hold more donation events and will continue to update the community when these events take place. In the coming weeks, our Art Club will be selling handmade items through a "pop-up shop" fundraiser. All "pop up shop" proceeds will be donated to the UN Refugee Agency in order to help those affected by this war. In addition, during the district's most recent professional learning day, the RMS Social Studies department worked on grade level lessons that would help students unpack the Russia/Ukraine conflict. As a school we are mindful of the sensitivity of this ever-changing conflict and we are working on ways to thoughtfully teach these types of complex current events. Stay tuned for more information!

In May, the non-for profit group GLSEN (Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network), will be working with our faculty in professional development sessions, pushing into some of our classes, and partnering with our Kaleidoscope Club to plan pride month activities. GLSEN works in conjunction with K-12 schools to ensure that LGBTQ students are able to learn and grow in a school environment free from bullying and harassment. We are always looking for ways to affirm the environment for all students and promote a positive school culture. More details on these events coming soon!
