Parent Input Needed!

Hey parents! We need your input. Each year, our school is required by the state of Illinois to provide you with the opportunity to give us input about how you think our school is meeting the needs of your child. This survey covers things like school culture and climate, community involvement and academics. Feedback received through the 5-Essentials Survey is utilized as part of an important planning tool that we will use to address your concerns. Students in grades 5-8 will also be asked to complete the survey later in the school year. Please consider taking about 10 minutes to fill out this survey and help us see our school through your lens. Thank you in advance!

McTeachers Night a Success!

Thanks to all of the teachers who came out to work and families who supported our efforts at McTeachers Night on November 7th! A special thanks to Mrs. Mount for another successful fundraiser for SGS! This was a great opportunity for our staff to serve our families in a little different capacity. Although I think we all enjoyed a great night, it was nice to return to something a little more familiar to our skill set. Thanks again to all those who participated. Be on the lookout for our next fundraiser coming January 9 at Dairy Queen.

Welcome Mrs. Mowrer

Mrs. Amy Mowrer has joined the SGS administrative staff. She started on November 1. She will serve as the administrative assistant to the superintendent. Amy's husband is Kris Mowrer; they have two sons, Gavin and Reed. Amy received her bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Their family attends the First United Methodist Church. Amy came to us from Bob White Insurance Agency in Mount Vernon. Her hobbies include going on walks, reading and spending time with her family. She is a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Mexican food.

Summersville Grade School Honors our Veterans

On Friday, November 9, Summersville Student Council held a breakfast to show our thanks and support for veterans in our community. Many of our classes made cards and posters to show their support and appreciation for our veterans. Students and families were invited to have breakfast with their veteran. A special thanks to Mrs. McClellan for planning and promoting the event. We plan for this to be an annual event.

Students select their Summersville Wildcat!

Since my arrival, I have seen about a dozen different versions of the Summersville Wildcat. In an effort to try and narrow down our identity as a school, the Board of Education asked that we go to the students to find out which Summersville Wildcat they liked best. Students in grades 3-8 were allowed to participate in the survey and chose Wildcat #2 (shown at the left) You can check out the results of the survey below! For the alternate artwork, the students chose #2 as well.

How To Connect with Me

Although I fought the concept of social media for many years, eventually I came to understand the power of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I've learned over the past several years that these are in fact some of the easiest ways to get information out to people. As your school superintendent, it is a priority for me to provide as much and as timely information to you as possible. I utilize several social media platforms. Feel free to connect with me to stay up to date with whats happening in our school by using the buttons below to find me.
