Principal's Message:
Dear Weibel Families,
We started the month of March with Read Across America week and it was so great to see many students participate on various spirit days throughout the week. If you haven’t see the photo album yet, please check out - https://photos.app.goo.gl/TdfnYLAA1gApgwHv8 We also added Family Reading night with many of our teachers reading for our library fundraiser and had our 1st school wide assembly with Draw Along with Kyle. Both events were sponsored by PTO. Thank you so much everyone for your support!
Please note that the 2nd trimester ended on March 8th and parents will have access to view report cards on Illuminate Parent Portal starting March 18th. Our annual residency verification also started this month. That is now on our new program Infinite Campus. Please look out for emails from the district on how to complete the forms. We will continue to use both Illuminate and Infinite Campus.
Stay safe and healthy.
Thank you,
Ms. Lee

ELPAC Testing
The Summative English Language Proficiency Assessments for California, or “Summative ELPAC,” is the test used to measure how well students understand English when it is not the language they speak at home. Information from the ELPAC tells your child’s teacher about the areas in which your child needs extra support.
This spring, your child will take the Summative ELPAC.
Students in kindergarten through grade twelve who are classified as English learners will take the Summative ELPAC every year until they are reclassified as proficient in English. Students are tested on their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Your child’s voice is being recorded as part of the Speaking test. A small percentage of student responses will be used to validate the accuracy of scoring and will not be used for identification. All recorded responses will be destroyed after the scores are validated.
You are an important part of your child’s education. To help your child get ready for the test, you can:
∙ Read to your child, or have them read to you on a regular basis.
∙ Use pictures and ask your child to tell you what they see, or what is happening in each picture.
∙ Provide your child with opportunities to use language outside of school.
∙ Talk with your child’s teacher about your child’s listening, speaking, reading and writing skills to help support their progress.
To learn more about the ELPAC, go to the California Department of Education Parent Guides to Understanding Web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/parentguidetounderstand.asp.
You also can look at sample test questions on the practice tests, which can be found on the ELPAC Web site at https://www.elpac.org/resources/practicetests/.
If you have any questions about your child taking the ELPAC, please contact

Welcome to March!
I wanted to talk about internet safety in this newsletter. Although your students are in elementary school, there are many things to consider already when it comes to keeping them safe online! As the counselor I hear about students experiencing online bullying, coming across pornographic images, and befriending strangers online because they seem nice!
You would think that staying home this past year would help keep our students safer, but when it comes to online time it can easily and quickly spiral into something detrimental for our children. Learn about parental controls in the resources link below. Set privacy settings as well, to keep strangers from accessing your or your child's personal information.
Remind your student to stop and think about what they are writing online. Is it kind? Would they say it outloud (in front of adults)? If someone writes hurtful things to them (or others), encourage them to tell the person to stop, tell an adult if it doesn't stop, and to block the person if necessary.
Strangers are strangers, whether they are online or in person. Online, strangers can use any picture or name they want to fit in with young people. Unfortunately, we need to treat all strangers with caution. Don't allow strangers (people you don't know in person) to gift game "freebies" to your children. Don't allow your children to share their real full name, school, address, phone number or pictures that show their home or neighborhood. Talk to your children about why. Not sure why? Please reach out to me!
Setting up access restrictions on devices, for what can be viewed, can slow the first experiences of seeing inappropriate/adult content by your children. Before the pandemic the average age for kids to first see pornography was 11-13 years old. I would imagine it is even younger now. Keep in mind that average means that is somewhere in the middle of the age range of exposure. Be prepared to talk with your children about "x"ing out of screens that they do not want to see and reporting it to an adult. Talk to your children about puberty and curiosity as they approach or are experiencing bodily changes. Start now! Need help doing this….let me know.
I know this is a lot to take in! Please reach out with questions! Click here for more resources on these topics! Please also plan to attend my internet safety presentation on 3/16 at 6pm for a more in depth conversation. The zoom link is below. You may also be interested in attending this free series of webinars put on by the California department of Education based on the Social Dilemma and the impact of technology on our children.
