A Letter from Mr. Hershey

Hello Shiloh families,

Earlier this month I announced that Dr. Ben Jones was approved as our new principal for the 2019-2020 school year. I have known Dr. Jones for about 10 years now and see him as a leader that is passionate, servant-hearted, and growth mindset oriented. To say he is excited to serve as the new leader of Shiloh Point would be an understatement! We will be working very hard over the next several months to give him as many opportunities to meet with you as we make this transition. He has also written a short letter below as a way to introduce himself to you. Please join me in giving Dr. Jones a huge Shiloh welcome as he becomes a new member of our family.

It has truly been a pleasure serving you and your children. I look forward to the next 3 months as we continue to do our very best to finish out the 2018-2019 school year! Thank you for all of your support!

Sincerely,

Derrick Hershey

A Letter from Dr. Jones

From Dr. Jones

Dear Shiloh Point Families,

It is my honor and privilege to be named Principal of Shiloh Point Elementary for the 2019-2020 school year.

Over the next few months, I look forward to meeting each of you! My wife, Mary Paige, and I have lived in Cumming for almost 15 years and have two children who attend Sawnee Elementary School. My son, Alex, is in 3rd grade and my daughter, Addison, is in 1st grade. After graduating from the University of Georgia in December of 2002, I began teaching at Carson Middle School in Greene County. In August of 2004, I started my career in
Forsyth County teaching Social Studies at Liberty Middle School. In 2012, I was appointed to Silver City Elementary School as an assistant principal and in 2016, I started my current role as an assistant principal at South Forsyth Middle School. During this time, I earned a Masters Degree in Leadership from Kennesaw State University and a Doctorate of Education from Georgia Southern University. Some of my favorite hobbies are reading, spending time
with my family, and enjoying a really good cup of coffee.

One of my top priorities over the next few months is to learn more about what makes Shiloh Point the amazing school that it is. I can already predict that one of those factors is the passionate and caring staff that serves our community each and everyday. Another indicator of success is the unparalleled support and involvement of the Shiloh Point families and community, and I will strive to ensure that this partnership continues to flourish.

Mr.Hershey is an incredible leader and someone I look to as a mentor, so I know Ihave very big shoes to fill. I pledge to work diligently to continue the path of success previously paved and know that by working together we will continue to create an environment of love and learning for our Shiloh Point community!

Thank you for the honor of serving you, and I look forward to meeting you very soon!

Sincerely,

Ben Jones

The 7 Mindsets - Passion First

The Passion First Mindset teachers us that we are all unique expressions of human existence. It is vital to find out what our individual strengths and talents are so that we might connect them with our goals and visions for the future. In this mindset, we work with students to understand their unique gifts, their skills and strengths, and how to share them with the world to the maximum extent possible. Not only will they explore their interests, they will begin to identify their core values and what they stand for. The next step is helping them learn how to make their dreams into reality, tapping into both the courage and perseverance needed to overcome any challenges they encounter in pursuit of the lives they desire.

Make sure to ask your student about what "Passion First" means. For more information, please click here. You will find great resources on this link that will support you as a parent.
