Stop, Drop, and Roll into February
Community Helpers
Happy Groundhog Day! I guess the fact that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and there will be 6 more weeks of winter isn't so bad when you live in such a beautiful place.
We had a busy past month learning about community helpers! Some activities included making police officer badges, decorating chef's hats, and painting teeth with toothbrushes and toothpaste. During P.E., we rode on scooter boards - first on our bottoms and then on our bellies. We did a Sesame Street dance party: flew like airplanes, dog dance, jelly dance, jumping with Grover and Oscar the Grouch. With our friends from Room 4, we made moon sand (8 cups flour & 1 cup baby oil), used spray bottles to put out flames, and played Caribou, during which we took turns identifying community helpers and vehicles and finding hidden balls.
We had a variety of special activities these past couple of weeks:
- Field trip to the fire station - hope you all had as much fun as I did!
- A guest came to show us her ukulele and play some music for the group
- Play day - big shout out to Ms. Renae for organizing a fun day full of several pretend play areas for all the kids
Spring Fling
Save the Date: Friday, April 6 at 3:30. The whole CDC will be having its annual Spring Fling concert, during which groups of classes (the Pandas are partnering with 3 CDC classes and Ms. Renae's tiger room) will get in costumes and perform songs with actions in front of their family and friends. It's the day before our April vacation and not a typical school day for us, but hopefully you'll be able to attend!
February
The CDC theme for February is transportation. We will be talking about the transportation vehicles we see everyday, as well as some less common ones (e.g., hot air balloon, skateboard, etc.). We will also be doing a variety of Valentine's Day activities. Feel free to prepare Valentines to have your child pass out to their friends at school - please try to stay away from giving food/candy.
Today was Ms. Jillian's last day before she goes out on maternity leave, and Ms. Kelli is not far behind. Best of luck to these two beautiful moms!
