Findley Elementary School

December 21st, 2018

Wishing you and your families a wonderful and restful winter break! See you next year!

Keep Reading for the Goats!

Update: We met our first goal of 1 pair of goats. Students read
2,160 hours. We are so close to our second pair of goats. READ OVER THE BREAK!!! So far for the K-2 Category, Ms Schulz is in the lead with Mrs. Rumple's class close behind. In the 3-5 category, Mrs. Clay's is in the lead with Ms. Gentzkow's class trailing right behind them!

THE CHALLENGE: The Cedar Mill Library and Findley PTO are teaming up again to help our students read for a challenge! The challenge is to read up to 9,000 hours as a school goal. For every 1,500 hours we read, The Findley PTO will also sponsor a pair of goats. A donor will also purchase a pair of goats through the Cedar Mill Library if we meet our community goal. The goats are purchased through Mercy Corps, which helps people in some of the poorest, most difficult parts of the world. For millions of impoverished people, livestock can offer a lifeline-but starting a herd is hard. Goats provide nutritious milk and meat, and bring in income that let’s struggling families purchase the goods they need.

WHEN: December 10, 2018 to January 17, 2019. The Second Challenge sheet is due the first day back. All Reading Records are due January 19th. Two winning classes get to adopt our stuffed goats for the rest of the year!

Early Release Wednesday

This week some Findley teachers got their tech on and collaborated cross grade level to discuss how the technology they are using has an impact on student achievement. Teachers discussed how the Seesaw platform allows for a more open learning community with their parents, as well as ways to enhance this tool. They also learned how to make videos in the classroom with the new Padcaster tools (purchased with PTO funds) and the green screen. Teachers also learned how to develop their class websites as a way to help communicate with their class and parent community (thanks Mr. Potocki).
