Mrs. Parkison's ART ROOM Update

Hello FCE art lovers! We are having lots of messy fun in the art room this month as students begin to create clay projects. We have learned that clay comes from the earth and must be fired in a large oven called a kiln.

Kindergarten and 1st grade students are building coil pots inspired by the book 'The Pot that Juan Built'.

2nd graders are making "Pinch Pot Planters with Personality" inspired by English artist Stella Baggot. 3rd graders are creating "Abstract Faces" in the style of artist Kimmy Cantrell. And 4th graders are designing and assembling ""Monster Pots" inspired by ceramicist James DeRosso.

FCE INNOVATION LAB DONATIONS NEEDED:

The Innovation Lab is in need of the following donations for some upcoming projects:

Cotton balls, tape – masking or duct, baby wipes, pipe cleaners, and rubber bands.

Thank you!

COUNSELING OPPORTUNITIES

Mrs. Meyer, School Counselor, will be starting new counseling groups at the end of January/early February. If you feel your child is dealing with an issue or concern that is interfering with their school performance (social, emotional or academic), then please contact Mrs. Meyer to see how we can work together to meet their needs! Groups that may be offered are: anxiety/emotion management group, social group, students dealing with terminal family health issues, and/or divorce groups. If you and/or your child’s teacher feel that a group may beneficial for your child, please contact Mrs. Meyer at mmeyer@hse.k12.in.us.

HSE schools have also partnered with Community North for on-going counseling services. Mrs. Kerns, Mental Health Therapist, is at FCE 2 ½ days per week for counseling therapy services. If you feel your child may benefit from therapy services, please contact Mrs. Meyer, as well.

HSE BOOK STUDY - A PARENT'S GUIDE TO GIFTED CHILDREN

Are you interested in learning strategies that best meet the needs of your high ability child? Hamilton Southeastern is pleased to offer a four-session book study on A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children by James T Webb, Janet L. Gore, Edward R. Amend, and Arlene R. DeVries. Meetings follow a discussion format. Walk away with strategies for addressing intensities, perfectionism, sibling issues, and underachievement. Sessions will be on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:00 pm at the Administration Building on 13485 Cumberland Road in the West Conference Room. Meeting dates are: February 13, February 20, February 27, March 6, March 13. The book club is limited to twelve participants (one member per family) and fills up quickly. Participants are welcome to borrow HSE copies of the book for the duration of the book study. If you would like to join the group, contact Meg Strnat, HSE High Ability Coordinator and book study facilitator, at mstrnat@hse.k12.in.us. Please include contact information (your child’s name, teacher, and school) and whether you would like to borrow the book.
