This week in school
Staying strong!
Today it was so good to see all the out of school achievements from the children in our Superstar Worship...from football trophies and swimming badges to newspaper articles! After such long breaks from other activities it is lovely to be able to share and celebrate successes from outside school too.
It's been a challenging week with lots of staff and pupil absence, but everyone has come together as a school team to make sure we are supporting the children throughout the day. Despite the (many) changes, the children have been fantastic: well done to them and a huge thankyou to all the staff who have covered different classes, breaks and lunchtimes to keep things going.
As the government continues with the easing of restrictions there has been some uncertainty around the latest on isolation. Children and adults can now end their isolation after 5 days, as long as they have 2 negative LFD tests, one on day 5 and one on day 6. So children can come back to school on day 6 as long as they have had that second negative result in the morning. If they are still getting positive results, they should carry on isolating for up to 10 days. After 10 days they can still come back, even if their tests are positive, as it is highly unlikely that they are still contagious. If you are not sure, please just contact the school office and we will help out.
Thank you for your continued support.

Our school values
Nursery - Stars
We have loved learning the stories of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Little Red Hen this week. We have retold the stories through role play and small world activities and the children are getting really good at joining in with the repeated refrains. We have used collage to make pictures of the stories and have built bridges and measured out ingredients for bread.
In phonics we have been learning to recognise words in a sentence and practising loud and quiet sounds. Our maths has focussed on counting and recognising numbers. The children are getting good at recognising 1 or 2 objects without having to count each object.
Our Star of the Week is Jasmine Whitby
FS - Moon and Mercury
This week we read the story Walking Through the Jungle by Julie Lacome. We were young explorers and went for a thrilling walk through the jungle. We encountered different animals and habitats of the world and made it back to school for dinner safely. We shared the jaunty rhyme which was full of fun and surprises. You wouldn’t believe what we saw and heard!
In Maths we have looked at the composition of numbers to 5, exploring how two groups can be represented on a 5 frame. We have also been counting the number of animals, knowing the total and working out how many are hiding.
We also had a virtual trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Hop on board the Safari Bus. The children boarded the Safari Bus with their binoculars and tickets. We discovered a world of exotic animals, with Mr Osborne and Mrs Clayton as their very own knowledgeable tour guides!
Star of the Week
Moon – Miles Smith
Mercury – Willow Laverick
Mercury - Ryder Varley
Y1 - Galaxy and Venus
Brrr! It has been a chilly week in Year One sharing the story of ‘One Snowy Night’ by Nick Butterworth. In English we shared ‘snowflake’ poetry before creating our own poems using adjectives and similes to describe. We have continued to focus on subtraction in maths using different strategies to solve a variety of problems. In Science, we became weather reporters, observing and reporting the weather using weather symbols. We designed and made our own bird feeders to place around the school grounds helping the birds find food in this wintery weather. In RE we introduced the religion, Judaism and looked at symbols of belonging including the Star of David and kippahs. In PSHE we talked about what makes us each unique.

Year 2 / 3 Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune
‘Read all about it - Romans Invade Britain!’ This week the children have thoroughly enjoyed taking on the role of a Celtic newspaper reporter from the Year 43 CE, as well as stepping into the shoes of Roman Emperor Claudius and the opposing Britons. Channelling their inner journalist, Year 2/3 have begun writing their own historic article about Claudius’ invasion of Britain, using the key features of a newspaper report. In Maths, the children have learnt how to use arrays to help solidify their understanding of multiplication and enjoyed being times tables treasure hunters. In DT we have created our own fossils using clay and in RE we have continued learning about prayer, focusing on Islam.
Star of the week - Saturn - Lewis Nicholson
Star of the week - Jupiter - Joseph Wilford
Star of the week - Neptune - Amber Kilmartin
Year 4 Mars and Earth
Another busy, varied and lively week in Year 4. We’ve been using our imagination and exploring mythical creatures by delving further into the character of Grendel from our class book, Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo. We’ve been continuing to focus on learning our times tables and applying our skills to column multiplication. We are also rapidly becoming experts on bus stop method division too. In our science, we have begun to investigate how sound travels in waves and how we hear the vibrations of these waves just like the ripples when we drop a pebble into a tray of water. We have also spent some time considering our feelings and emotions as part of our PSHE.

Mars - Ella-Rose Howard
Earth- Amelia Scott
Year 5 Asteroid and Pluto
We have had a busy maths week this week - we have become long multiplication masters, making sure we invite zero to each multiplication party we have! We also tackled bus stop division, both with and without remainders - our times tables knowledge has been so important this week. In English we have been immersed in our creative writing task, describing our descent into Planet Pandora. The descriptions of the plant and animal life we observed have been breathtaking. Liam, the main character in our class novel, Cosmic has got himself in some hilarious situations so far and he is about to venture into a Porsche showroom, this has led to some very animated discussions about what he might see, hear or do next. We have started to explore our galaxy, researching planets and then working in teams to start making a model of the Solar System.
Star of the week- Asteroid - Riley Lee
Star of the week - Pluto - Isla Heslop
Year 6 Nebular and Constellation
This week in year 6 we travelled back to 1922 to find out about the famous Egyptologist, Howard Carter, and the most amazing archaeological find, ever to have been unearthed - the millenia hidden tomb of Tutankhamun. In English, we have researched and created an in depth biography of the man and his life. We have learned how to create multi-clause sentences in grammar in preparation for using them in the coming days for historical narratives. In Maths, we have tackled the rather complex world of ratio and scaling, both of which the children were quick to understand and apply in their learning. In guided reading, the class text is hotting up, quite literally! From finding translations of ancient scripts by a man who met his demise through spontaneous human combustion, to what will inevitably be a daring journey to the searing Egyptian desert. In topic, we have begun to understand the country of Egypt: past and present, using six figure grid references to locate important sites. In art, we used mixed media, to create a whole collage of Howard Carter's most incredible find of all…Tutankhamen.
