AFSA Athletics Survey 2021-2022
Dear AFSA Families,
My name is Jake Brown and I am the Athletic Director for AFSA High School. As we move into the 2021-2022 school year I am surveying families to see what interest our students have in participating in AFSA Athletics. If you have a student, or students who are interested in athletics please take the time to fill out the survey. If a sport that your student would be interested in participating in is not listed please make note of that in the survey. AFSA is always looking for ways to help involve our students, so if your student has ever participated in a sport we offer, or simply wanted to try that sport please fill out the survey. Students who are in grade 7-12 are eligible to participate in AFSA Athletics through the Minnesota State High School League.
Currently, AFSA offers the following sports:
Fall Sports: Soccer, Volleyball
Winter Sports: Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball
Spring Sports: Baseball, Softball
Additionally, AFSA is looking into starting a Cross Country, and Track program. If those are of interest to your student please ensure the sections of the survey that indicate interest in those sports is marked.

In-Person and Distance Learning Important Notes:
Students who are signed up for in-person learning must attend in-person. The distance learning option is for students who have signed up for it or have been placed in distance learning due to quarantine. Students may not switch back and forth between modes of learning.
Important Notes:
- We have a waiting list for students who are in distance learning and want to return to school in-person.
- Students who are enrolled in in-person learning and have 3 or more unexcused absences may be required to move to distance learning as regular attendance policies apply.
- In-person students who are not under quarantine or do not have a valid excuse for absence and decide to attend via distance learning will be counted as an unexcused absence.
- If your student is ill they must contact their teachers for make up work. They are NOT required to attend distance learning and live lessons.
Please contact Mrs. Vanyo with any questions lvanyo@afsahighschool.com.

Advisory Corner
This week’s advisory was filled with community building activities and preparations for the end of the school year. While many advisories held regular activities like grade checks, reviewing the newsletter, playing games, our senior advisories reminisced about their favorite AFSA memories, finalized plans for graduation, and the senior distance learning advisory visited other classrooms through Google Meet. Students also participated in a modified banquet with numerous receiving awards for academics, athletics, FFA, and other activities. These awards have been a great way to recognize many student accomplishments from this school year.
Weekly Department Updates
Ms. Patt's World Mythology class has spent a couple of days with monsters and demons, but we bested them and have moved on to learn the tale of Sinbad. In Essence of English, we are embarking on a closer study of character and the characters who play them. Mr. Kienitz's English classes are finishing reading and writing their final assignments. Next week we will be analyzing films as texts.
