McKay High School Weekly Newsletter
Week of Feb 27 -- March 3
Message from the Admin Team
Inside of this newsletter you can find our link to 2022/2023 Spring registration. Activities offered include Baseball, Softball, Tennis, Golf, and Track and Field. There are also several clubs and programs that will be holding spring events as well. These opportunities not only provide students with a place to make positive connections, but also give them the chance to work on their confidence level, and belief in their abilities.
If school connected activities is not of interest to your student we still encourage families to find other ways to challenge the mental and physical capacities of your children. Hobbies like painting, or building offer appropriate challenges. Overall any type of activity that keeps our student engaged and interested for extended periods of time helps to build their capacity in the classroom. If and when they realize that they are capable of accomplishing "hard," tasks, what is being asked of them in the classroom becomes less of an obstacle.
Together we can be sure that our students are keeping up with other young people around the city, below you will read about some of the successes that Royal Scots are experiencing around the state.
Take care

Shout Outs (Academic, Athletics, Activities)
This was another busy week for activities at McKay High School. As we reach the end of McKay Cares month, this past week brought forth a lot of reasons for celebration. We started off the week hosting Future Freshman Open House on Tuesday night. Many families came to listen and learn about all the opportunities that their students would have available to them in the upcoming years.
Our week was interrupted by some inclement weather but that did not stop us from finishing the week strong. On Friday we had our annual Black History Month assembly, Mr. Kendall put together a memorable show. At that event we honored the work of Mr. Ronnie Brooks who will be retiring this week after spending many years at McKay High. We want to encourage as many of you who have been helped by Mr. Brooks along the way to reach out and let him know the impact that he has had on your lives.
On Saturday morning, McKay hosted it's 38th Community Breakfast. Extra shout outs go to Mr. Feskins and his culinary arts students for preparing the food, Mrs. Shiffer, and Mrs. Reynolds for organizing the event, as well as all other staff members who played a role. The event was well attended by more than 100 community members. Saturday evening many of our Royal Scots were honored at the All-City Music event, the names of those honored are below.
Also taking place this weekend was the State of Oregon Wrestling Championships. Over 12 boys and girls from McKay participated at this state event. 3 girls came back with top three finishes, and our girls team finished 5th overall. The names of our top qualifiers are also below. This week our girls basketball team host their Senior night on Tuesday February 28. Look out for pictures of the night on next week's newsletter.
