Reminder - Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day this year will be celebrated at Vaughan on February 12th. As in years past, we do not have a party on that day, but rather just allow students to exchange valentines with other students. This year we are asking that if you chose to send valentines with your child, that you send them by Monday, February 8th. This will allow them to sit untouched for several days prior to your child opening their box/bag. In addition, we ask that you not send a container for the valentines. We will be providing that for students this year. More specifics will be sent home from the teachers in the coming weeks.

Instructional Delivery Model Selection Dates - Feb. 15-21

Allen ISD understands that families may want to change their instructional delivery model selection during the school year. Due to the scheduling complexities inherent in both At-Home Learning and In-Person Learning, parents are asked to make a commitment for at least one full nine-weeks grading period.

The chart below outlines the timeframe for making a change in the selected instructional delivery model prior to the start of each new grading period. Parents wishing to change their child’s participation in either At-Home Learning or In-Person Learning for the next nine-weeks grading period will need to complete the Commitment Form. Information will be sent to all parents about the process to request a change.

All changes will be effective on the first day of each new nine weeks grading period as listed below:

Big picture

Please note that adjustments in instructional delivery model selections across the district may impact teacher assignments and student schedules.

Staff may need to shift to align with new instructional model choices. Therefore, even students who do not change instructional models could experience a change to their teacher(s), course availability or class schedule as teachers are assigned based on the numbers of students and course requests in each environment.

Reminder - GT Parent Informational Session & Phase I Testing

This year, Allen ISD will begin offering the computerized version of the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) for all students in grades 1-11 who test for potential gifted identification. All students interested in participating in phase I of testing for potential gifted identification will take this administration of the CogAT onsite. Separate testing sessions will be offered for in-person and at-home learners. Registration for phase I testing for students currently in grades 1-11, opens January 26, 2021 and closes February 5, 2021. Please access the registration form for more information, including testing dates, at (Please note: the registration form will not accept responses until January 26, 2021.)

Reminder - Steam Ambassador Tutoring - Grades 5 & 6

General Overview:

  • STEAM Ambassadors will provide flexible, one on one online peer tutoring services to students in grades 5-12 with homework help and science and math concept comprehension.

  • This tutoring is available for in-person AND virtual learners.

  • Assist students with math and science concepts through virtual tutoring sessions.

  • Provide accessible student support that would typically be offered in a face to face setting but has become increasingly difficult as students learn away from campus.

  • Establish a virtual tutoring model that successfully addresses the diverse needs of learners across Allen ISD.

Who are the tutors?

  • STEAM Ambassadors were chosen by board members, administrators, and teachers during an extensive interview process last spring.

  • Tutors have completed classroom observations and were trained on best instructional practices.

  • Please visit the STEAM Ambassador website to learn more about the leadership program and tutoring

How to sign up:

**Parents and students may view available times for tutoring sessions and sign up for a session here**

  • Students can learn about the available tutors by viewing their bios.

  • Students will sign up for a session at least 24 hours in advance, providing details regarding material they would like to cover during the session. Additionally, graded quizzes/assignments, homework, etc. can be submitted here for the tutor to review in detail with the student (reworking missed questions, clarifying/reteaching when necessary)

  • Individual notices will be sent out in January, February, March, April, and May reminding those students who still need to turn in proof of the above vaccines.

  • After this initial notice, if you do not receive a notice, your student’s vaccines are current for 7th grade entry and no action is required.
