September Middle Matters

This is our first Middle Matters Newsletter of the school year. We will be sending out this newsletter on the first Monday of every month. Each edition will celebrate what we accomplished in the previous month and look ahead to upcoming events and activities. We have had a great start to the school year and are looking forward to an exciting September.

In this issue...

  • 9/11 Remembrance
  • Peachjar Flyers
  • Memorial Stadium Guidelines
  • JUUL - what we know
  • Meet the Student Center Staff
  • And much more...

9/11 Rememberance

6th-grade students will discuss 9/11.

"Where were you when the world stopped turning" Alan Jackon tribute song/video - discussion afterward.

"September 12th, We Knew Everything Would Be Alright" Children's book read by firemen and women. Discussion afterward.

7th-grade students will view a slide show and discuss what happened on 9/11. To show our appreciation, students write thank you notes to local and national groups such as firefighters, police, armed forces, etc.

8th-grade students will conduct an interview with someone who was alive during 9/11 - we will discuss those interviews on September 10 and 11.

Wednesday Nights

MMS teaching staff have significantly reduced the homework for this one night a week. We are asking families to spend that time together away from the screens.

Monticello Middle School is excited to share that we will be using Peachjar with more regularity during the 2019-20 school year.

Peachjar is a digital flyer distribution company that Monticello Community Education started using during the 2019-20 school year. While it will not directly replace any communication that the school is already doing, it will provide another opportunity for us to reach our families with important information about events and opportunities in our building.

Peachjar sends digital flyers directly to parents who see them as visually engaging images right on their smartphone or computer screen. Additionally, all flyers will be posted to each school’s website. Parents will be able to click to register their children for youth sports, enrichment programs, and community events, as well as follow links to learn more about some of the great things happening in our building during the school year.

It is our belief that the use of Peachjar will help us to strengthen our community bond and increase parent and community engagement and participation at our building and across the district. We look forward to taking advantage of this new platform and opportunity during the 2019-20 school year!

You will see the link below at the bottom of each newsletter.

Did you know a single JUUL e-cigarette contains as much nicotine as smoking a full pack of 20 cigarettes?

Please take time to read the link below from the MN Department of Health on the rising concern of our youth & smoking electronic cigarettes. This is a national health issue. Minnesota is drafting legislation to keep our kids safe from the significant lung damage the devices can cause.
