Holly Academy News & Views
September 18, 2020
At the end of August Governor Whitmer instituted an additional Executive Order for school districts. The requirements in this Executive Order include:
- An "Extended COVID-19 Learning Plan". This plan must be approved at the Board level, the CMU level, and submitted to the Michigan Department of Education. Holly Academy's Learning Plan will be presented to our Board of Directors for approval on September 23rd.
- Publicly announce at Board meetings the weekly two-way interaction rates since the Board's last monthly meeting.
- Allow for public comment on the Extended COVID-19 Learning Plan (ECLP). This will occur beginning at the October Board meeting.
- At each Board meeting administration must reconfirm how instruction is going to be delivered during the 2020-2021 school year.
Upon approval of our ECLP it will be uploaded to our website. We appreciate your partnership as we navigate through this COVID environment! Power of the Pack!
Unity Day
October 21st is Unity Day. The purpose of Unity Day is to demonstrate that we stand together against bullying. Teachers stress the importance of inclusivity during the week of October 19th, that we are united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion of all students. On Unity Day students may wear orange or our HA "Stand Up To Bullying" shirts with dress down bottoms. Recent events in our nation have emphasized the need for a culture of acceptance in all situations. Please see the "Stand Up To Bullying" order form should you wish to purchase a shirt/s. Any type of SUTB shirt can be worn as dress code (elementary students may not wear the hooded sweatshirt). It's GREAT to be a Husky!
HEALTHY HUSKIES
For the safety of our Husky family, we are requesting that adults wear masks while you are outside your vehicle dropping off students. We so appreciate your support and cooperation! Power of the Pack!
We have received clarification from the Oakland County Health Department regarding our Huskies who are sent home due to COVID symptoms. The student must have one of the following:
- A negative COVID test
- 10 days isolation, improvement of symptoms, and no fever for 48 hours without fever-reducing medications
- A physician's note stating that the student is okay to return to school
Thank you for keeping all our Huskies safe!
Thank You
Another great week is in the books!
Beginning the week of September 28th, NWEA testing will begin for Young 5 through 8th grade students. Grade level teachers will communicate testing dates to you. If your Husky is a blended student, they may come to school on testing days that fall on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Our HVA students will test remotely. Information for remote testing will be shared with parents next week.
Continuing this coming week, Holly Academy teachers will be presenting virtual Curriculum Nights via Zoom. You will receive a Zoom link from your child’s teacher. We have had wonderful turnouts so far! Thank you for those who have already attended. Please note the days and times for your child/ren below:
3rd grade Monday, September 21 from 5:30 - 6:30
4th grade Monday, September 21 from 6:45 - 7:45
Specials Tuesday, September 22 from 5:30 - 7:30*
*5:30 - 6:30 Science and Spanish

All students have been trained in Big Ideas Math, Odysseyware, and Google Classroom. Important items to note: Student's first point of contact is their HVA teacher. Daily attendance is required. Virtual schooling is a full week of academics. While you may be able to flex your time during the day, it is expected that students participate daily, Monday - Friday. Attendance needs to be signed in the HVA Google Classroom daily for all virtual students. This is a new step third through middle school virtual students. Kindergarten through second grade this is just a reminder that you must go log your child’s attendance in the Google Classroom. Y5 - 2nd grade students: Sign into your homeroom Google Classroom each day and sign the attendance. (This must be done daily). Check out the songs and stories teachers have posted. Complete daily assignments in Google Classroom or paper copy of the resource packet (if applicable). 3rd - 5th grade students: Check your email. Login to Odysseyware and complete assignments for the day in their assigned classes. Log in to Google Classroom for math resources, PE, and Spanish. Log in to Big Ideas Math for math assignment. 6th - 8th grade students: Check your email. Login to Odysseyware and complete assignments for the day in their assigned classes. Log in to Google Classroom for math resources, PE, and Spanish. Log in to Big Ideas Math for math assignment. Check Skyward.
