Christmas Messages for our Parents
Mom, Dad
I’ve been doing great, can we go outside and play with the family over Christmas break?

Mom and Dad,
I enjoy when all of us are a family at Christmas time. Could we have more of that family time. Also, I wish the feast could be bigger. Can you make that happen?

Thanksgiving Luncheon
Lunch with our 2nd/3rd Grade Parents
Cafeteria Serving Line
Thank you!
We want to thank all the parents, grandparents and siblings of the 2nd and 3rd Graders that were able to join us for our first ever Thanksgiving Lunch. We appreciated the time you took out of your day to promote parent involvement. We would love it if you left some feed back, in our comments section below, on how we can make the lunch better for the other grades.
Also, a big congratulations to Randy Valderrama (father of Elijah Valderrama) and Bryan Reyes (older brother of Jonathan Reyes) for being the winners of the Butterball Turkeys. We also had Kelly Shoup-Hill and Liz Ramirez win a set of candle holders.
4th/5th Grade Christmas Lunch
In order to promote parent participation at Waterford, we will be having a number of "special lunches" this year. Our first Thanksgiving Luncheon for our 2/3 Grade families was a great success with a total of 120 parents, grandparents and siblings being present. After making some adjustments, we are ready for another luncheon in December.
On Tuesday, December 15th 2015, we are inviting the parents of our 4th/5th Graders to join us for a Christmas Lunch. After lunch, time will be provided for you to do a special activity with your child in their classroom. Additionally, we will be raffling off two hams for those parents in attendance.
Tickets will need to be purchased ahead of time and we are asking that you park on the south side of the building where the buses pick up and drop off each day. Please come through the cafeteria door on the south end of the building where you will be welcomed and "checked in." The students will come to the cafeteria, pick you up for lunch and then get in line. Once you finish your lunch, your child will take you to their classroom so that you can complete a special craft activity together.
Invitations have been sent out, but for more questions please call Mrs. Medrano at 574-533-6811 ext. 3305.
Cold weather is here!
Please remember to send your child to school with a coat, hat and gloves to wear outside. Although snow pants and snow boots are not required, they are recommended as students can not play in the snow without them. Students will still go outside for recess as long as the temperature is 20 degrees or higher and the wind chill is 10 degrees or above. Recess usually runs for about 15-20 minutes.
Nurse News
With the holidays around the corner, here are some guidelines to keeping students rested:
The ideal amount of sleep for most school age children is 10-12 hours each night. Many children do not get enough sleep and this can become even more challenging during the holidays. When children don’t get enough sleep, they cannot concentrate on their schoolwork, have trouble remembering things, become irritable and are more susceptible to illness.
Here are some tips that may help your child get enough sleep each night…
- Set a regular bedtime and stick with it.
- Establish a relaxing bedtime routine. This is a great time to read with your child.
- Monitor your child’s diet. Sugar and caffeine may cause problems with sleep.
- Create a calm, cozy sleep environment. Keep bedroom cool, quiet and dark.
(A nightlight is ok.)
