Principal's Point
Hello North Families,
Most American families come from somewhere else… mainly Europe, Asia, South or Central America, or Africa.
That’s why Thanksgiving is my favorite American holiday; it’s the one we all celebrate despite our religion, color, or place of birth.
In Indiana, the build-up to the holiday is wonderful. Doors and porches may be decorated with six-foot-high cornstalks accompanied by plaid and denim-wearing scarecrows and a bunch of wild corn cobs to reflect autumn’s varied colors.
The pinnacle is the Thanksgiving Day parade on TV.
Later, most Americans – regardless of their heritage – will watch football and eat themselves into a contented stupor.
It is one of our great joys that we get to work with wonderful families like you and that
we get to make positive deposits in all of your lives. We’re honored to hold this role
and love the time we spend with your children and you.
So in the spirit of the season, on behalf of the staff, I’d like to give thanks to all of you.
Here’s wishing you a very happy Thanksgiving.
As you go on Thanksgiving break here are a few ideas to practice thankfulness
throughout the year.
Gratitude
Gratitude has been shown to increase happiness in those who practice it. Rather than
just focusing on it during this time of year, consider incorporating it into your daily
life. From a Harvard Medical School article, here are some ways to cultivate gratitude
on a regular basis.
Write a thank-you note. You can make yourself happier and nurture your
relationship with another person by writing a thank-you letter expressing your
enjoyment and appreciation of that person’s impact on your life. Send it, or better yet,
deliver and read it in person if possible. Make a habit of sending at least one gratitude
letter a month. Once in a while, write one to yourself.
Thank someone mentally. No time to write? It may help just to think about
someone who has done something nice for you and mentally thank the individual.
Keep a gratitude journal. Make it a habit to write down or share with your child
one thought about the gifts you’ve received each day.
Count your gifts. Pick a time every week to sit down and write about your gifts —
reflecting on what went right or what you are grateful for. Sometimes it helps to pick a
number — such as three to five things — that you will identify each week. As you write,
be specific and think about the sensations you felt when something good happened to
you. It is a great activity to do with your child.
However you enjoy this holiday, know that we are thankful for you and your children.
Warm Regards,
Sincerely,
Mr. Lugo

Notes from the Nurse
Brrr… it’s getting cold outside!! Please make sure your student is leaving the house in the morning prepared to stay warm on bus stops and enjoy outdoor recess. Make sure all items such as hats, coats, and gloves are marked with your student’s name just in case they end up in the lost and found too!
COVID Vaccines. If your child has received the Covid vaccine, please let Nurse Harrison know so she can update their health file. Students are not considered fully immunized until two weeks after the second dose.
As we have gotten further into this pandemic, it’s easy to relax the rules that help prevent the spread of COVID-19 – wearing a mask, social distancing, cover a cough or sneeze, frequent handwashing, etc. Stay the course!! Have a Happy, Healthy Thanksgiving!!
Menu Changes
Last Minute Menu Changes
The national food, product and trucking shortages that are impacting stores and restaurants are also impacting our school cafeteria operations.
These shortages can cause our menus to change unexpectedly at the last minute at any specific school and some students have expressed tears, frustration, and anger at these changes.
Please know that we are doing what we can to provide meal options as planned, but families should expect occasional disruptions.
Thank you for your patience as we work to best serve you.
