Learn to work and think for life.
Halfway Through Quarter 1:
If you're math minded, you can think to yourself that we are now one-eighth of the way through this school year. I have been glad to hear parent and student feedback about how the school year and new system is going and if I can ever be of any help, please don't hesitate to contact me. Below I have also posted the Student Expectations and How Parents/Guardians can support their students during remote learning.
What does Mid-Quarter Mean Now?
- This mid-quarter (Sept 16) means that we are HALFWAY through our quarter long classes. If we were in a traditional system, these grades would be like quarter grades.
- Final course grades for transcripts will be assigned at the end of the quarter, which is October 16.
- Now is a great time to sit down with your student and talk about their progress at this point - what is working, what isn't? Do they need more support and do they know how to get it? Have they contacted their teachers for more support?
- As a reminder, we have regular tutoring time available from 1:45-2:45 and all day Wednesday.
- We all want students to be successful and help them in whatever way we can!
Need to Contact a Teacher?
- Email them directly or give them a call - Our Staff Directory has emails and phone numbers
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:
Student expectation should be included in the syllabus provided to students and parents in the first week of school. Expectations should include:
Attend online classes daily.
Login for morning meetings on time. Register Here: https://bit.ly/wmmreg
Check Google Classroom for communication and daily learning activities from teachers and staff.
Practice safe and appropriate digital citizenship.
Email teachers with any questions you might have.
Produce and submit high quality work to teachers
Be respectful to yourself, teacher, and peers
Check your grades in PowerSchool, know your progress, and keep up with your assignments
Be prepared to be successful when taking tests and other assessments
HOW PARENTS/GUARDIANS CAN SUPPORT THEIR CHILDREN:
Teachers are encouraged to establish positive partnerships with families, especially during periods of remote learning. Teachers should communicate the following to parents during the first week of class:
Attendance will be taken daily for students.
Students will be given assignments/assessments with due dates and grades will be assigned.
Additional suggestions:
Check their students Google Classroom for assignments every Monday.
Regularly check their student's assignment completion status and grades by logging into PowerSchool.
Designate a consistent space in the home for students to complete remote learning work.
Remind students how to communicate with their teachers
Allow students to work independently, don't feel the need to correct all of their errors. Allow the learning process to take place.
Encourage students to get enough sleep and maintain a regular school schedule.
SAFETY PROTOCOLS:
- All students and staff in the building must wear a mask and maintain social distancing at all times
- The student daily decision tree is posted below, but students should not come to school if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, have traveled outside of Alaska or have had close contact with a positive COVID-19 case within the last 14 days, or has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 10 days.
- If you have any questions or concerns - please call our school nurse, Corinne Roe.

As a parent, I completely understand how big of a shift this quarter has been and how much we are asking of each of you. As an educator, I also know how quickly things change and get confusing - don't hesitate to ask us questions - we get it and want to make sure you do it too.
Thank you for all you do every day and please take care,
Sarah Gillam
