Emotional ups & downs are to be expected during transition to a new school year and as children are growing and learning new social skills, but if your child is experiencing any of the following, please consider reaching out for some extra support:

● Increased problems in multiple areas of life: academic, social, family relationships, etc.

● Excessive worry

● Crying, hopelessness, or feeling sad

● Significant changes in sleeping or eating habits

● Feeling bad about themselves

● Withdrawal from activities or relationships they used to enjoy

● Engaging in negative behaviors

● Self harm behaviors or statements like “I wish I weren’t here”

Services at Shannon Park are provided by licensed clinician, Sarah Najafalipour, who has worked with many ISD 196 families over the last 7 school years she has collaborated with the district. Teacher Spotlight: Welcome, Mrs. Seaberg!

My name is Taylor Seaberg and I am from South Saint Paul, Minnesota, but originally am from New Richmond, Wisconsin. I went to the U of M Twin Cities for both my graduate and undergraduate degrees. GO GOPHS (Sorry Mrs. Shaw) I student taught and taught in Saint Paul Public Schools for 4 years prior to starting at Shannon Park. In school, I am passionate about teaching reading, social emotional skills and about equity / social justice. My husband Jack and I built a home in Lake Elmo last year and are loving our new town! We have 1 daughter and two husky pups. Our daughter, Lennon (named after John Lennon) turned one this summer. In our free time, we love to walk our dogs, spend time with family and travel and visit new countries! Our favorites so far have been Italy, Croatia and Bali. This winter we are taking Leni to Europe for the first time. I am SO delighted to teach at Shannon Park and become part of this amazing, collaborative school community! Thank you all for making me feel welcome and supported!

Would You Like to Honor a Veteran?

Students are invited to ask parents/guardians if there are family members that have served in any branch of the U.S. military. This can include grandparents, parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, or uncles. With the help of parents/guardians, students can complete information on the following document to be used in a Shannon Park hallway display. A copy of this document will also be coming home in Friday Folders. Feel free to provide a copy of the family member's photo (non-returnable) if you would like to have it displayed with the document. Please bring document and/or photo to school office by Wednesday, October 19. (Please do not send duplicate copies of the honored veteran if students have siblings, as all will be displayed in the hallways.)

School Spirit Day: Unity Day

All students and staff are invited to wear orange in honor of Unity Day to show unity for kindness and to prevent bullying.
