News and Notes

Dear Parents,

I hope this newsletter finds you and your family well. Please know that my prayers are with all of you. I hope you all had a nice weekend and were able to enjoy the beautiful weather on Saturday.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you and your family members who are frontline coronavirus responders and essential workers. Thank you for your sacrifice! Know that you are in my prayers. The Blue Angels and Thunderbirds will fly over southern Westchester County today, April 28, as part of a tri-state trip to honor frontline coronavirus responders and essential workers. The flyover of the New York City area will begin at Noon and last about 40 minutes. The Navy and Air Force jets will approach Westchester around 12:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to go outside and join this tribute. Send me any pictures of your children watching this flyover and thanking our frontline responders and essential workers.

Report Cards went home this Friday, April 24th through our Parent Portal (Educate). There was a systemwide issue where some student's report cards were not showing up. This issue has been resolved and all students should have their current report cards showing on the Parent Portal.

Thank you and have a wonderful week!

Ms. Kazan

Found Object Portraits

This week, in Art, the students were introduced to the artist, Hanoch Piven. Piven creates portraits using objects. Our students were challenged to create their own Found Object Portraits. Below are some examples of the creativity of Transfig students!

Growth Mindset Thought of the Week

Big picture

Mindfullness is a very important aspect to growth mindset. The upper grades have worked on mindfulness with Jennifer Monness of The Meditation Lab for the past two years.

During this uncertain time, mindfulness has never been more important. Below is a series of online meditation classes for you from Jennifer Monness’s The Meditation Lab. It’s a great way for you and your children to decompress while managing this new normal.

The three 30 minute sessions, which you can watch on your computer, teach basic meditation tools and techniques.

This special series is *free* for the Transfig.. community. We kindly ask that you not share these links with anyone outside of our school, as they are Jennifer's intellectual property. Thank you for honoring this request. A special thanks to Jennifer for allowing us to use these sessions in this format.
