Geography

Botswana is a landlocked country, in South central Africa. Its neighbors are Zimbabwe, South africa, Nambia, Angolia, and Zambia. Some major landforms are, the Kalahari desert, and the Okavango Delta. The Okavango delta is and inland delta, it is unlike other deltas that flow into oceans. There are 1 major lake in Botswana, Lake Ngami. This is because all of the other lakes have dried up. Botswana has alots of resources including diamonds and copper.


The capitol city of Botswana is Gaborone. It is located in the southeastern part of the country. Other major citys are Maun, Ghanzi, Mamuno, Mahalapye, Molepolole, Kanye, Francistown, Tshabong, Selebi-Phikwe, Serowe, and Kasane.


Desertfication is affecting botswana by drying up all of the lakes and warmer tempertures. It also causes canges with animals, if it becomes a desert then some animals will leave botswana. It also changes the climate

Culture

The official language of Botswana is English, because it was a british colony, but only 2.1 speak english in Botswana. The most popular language is Swetswana, which 78.2% of the population speaks. The largest ethnic group is Swetswana, with 79% of the people of botswana being swetswana. The smallest ethnic group is white, with only 7% of the people being white. 71.6% of the population is Christian, the rest are tranditional religions, and about 20% of the country doesnt have a religion. The population of botswana is 2,155,784, as of 2001. A major holiday for the country is Botswana day, when Botswana got its independence. Other holidays are Good friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, Christmas, Boxing Day, and many other holidays.

Government

The goverrnment in Botswana is a parlimentary republic. The president of botswana is Ian Khama. The national symbol for Botswana is the Zebra. The National holiday is Botswana Day, this is the day which in 1966 Botswana won its independence from Great Britian. They have 3 branches of government, Executive, Judicial, and Legislative.

Economy

Botswana has a world leading economy since independence in 1966. They have many mining industries, diamonds, and copper. Some imports are food, machinery, and electrical supplies. Some agriculture products are livestock, beans, and sunflower.
