Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
March 31, 2020
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Patrons,
Day 5 of the shutdown begins, although with Spring Break, this is day 10 for students being out of school. Even if COVID 19 is the new normal, now in our vocabulary as is the Columbine Massacre and 9/11, we will continue to ensure student success, look to the future, and build our community.
As previously informed, materials for the initial shutdown, March 18 through April 3, which included Spring Break, were delivered earlier electronically and/or by paper. With the extended shutdown now through Friday, April 24, 2020 FPS Administrators and Faculty have developed a continuation plan which is our implementation objective through the COVID 19 period. REVIEW REINFORCE ENRICH, while maintaining RELATIONSHIPS.
At this writing your Faculty and Administrators are diligently working to prepare student activities, ensure monitoring systems, and provide systematic support for your student(s). Personally, I am encouraged by the creativity of our faculty and administrative team. To me, it is obvious FPS is changing; yet we will strive to do our best work for your student(s) and community.
The remaining FOCUS material outlines the initial strategy. More information will be coming no later than early next week. Trying times is simply an understatement. We sincerely appreciate your support and sending great kids for us to work with.
Please do your best to keep your family well! We want to see each of your student(s) back in the classroom at FPS!
Best wishes,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.

Continuing to Learn
The Fulton Public Schools principals and administrators have been in constant communication as we strive to do what is best for our students. We began with Why? Why are we preparing lessons and activities for our students while we are experiencing school closure?
Our Why: REVIEW~REINFORCE~ENRICH, while maintaining RELATIONSHIPS
As we work toward our Why, we will ensure equity, provide social/emotional learning, and aspire to instill a love for learning along the way.
Students will continue using the resources that are on the Covid-19 page located at https://sites.google.com/fulton58.org/covid-19mainhome
New material will be added to the Covid-19 page on the website as we move forward.
Ideas for activities that can be completed daily without technology or connectivity will be distributed at the end of this week and as hard copies as needed.
Teachers will be making contact with students and families each week.
Teachers will hold “office hours” from 2 pm - 3 pm daily. This is a time to be available to help students/parents answer questions, etc.
Students involved in Project Extra, ELL, IEP, or 504 - Teachers will work in conjunction with regular education teachers to ensure accommodations are being made (if needed) based on the individual student’s needs.
We will not be giving traditional grades during this school closure. Students will focus on reviewing skills that are not proficient, reinforcing skills that have already been taught, and given enrichment opportunities to explore personalized learning. The focus of our staff will be to address the specific needs of students (review, reinforce, enrich). Students would have the opportunity to reassess when we return for grade improvement.
As a family, please set up the schedule that works best for you and your individual situation. Our staff will have sample ideas for schedules that will be shared later this week if you need ideas. Our goal during this time is to help support, but not overwhelm or create additional stress.
