Presented by National Expert Dr. Tom Nasca

The ACGME's Chief Executive Officer will discuss the evolution of competency-based education from the six domains of physician competency that emerged in the 1990s to current day. Placing assessment of individual trainee performance measures in this medical education context, he will discuss factors extrinsic to residents and fellows which correlate with clinical care outcomes and warrant the attention of all UNMC faculty and leaders.

*The objectives of this session are:

  • Examine the challenges and opportunities presented by competency-based education
  • Outline the basic elements of competency-based evaluation systems
  • Assess the potential of shared national developmental descriptions of trainee maturation to identify deficiencies at the program, regional, or national level
