Bobcat Bulletin
Week of April 19th
From the Desk of Mrs. Schmid
Hello Bobcat Families,
We had a wonderful week with our Bobcats coming to us for full days-rooming and zooming! It was a step towards a new "normal", and it was great to hear the sounds of joy from students and staff alike coming through the classrooms, halls, and at lunch/recess. There are many quotes from the students I will forever cherish as they expressed their happiness in being back full days on zoom or in-person. Each transition throughout this year has gotten us closer and closer to our current reality, and it feels good to have arrived!
With only 34 days left in the school year, we have much to celebrate and prepare for as we look towards our next school year. Information will be coming on appreciating our teachers and celebrating our 5th grade Bobcats. We also focus our attention towards our Academically Talented Programming to ensure we assess and collect all of the data needed for placement decisions for the 21-22 school year. Registration for next year also begins May 3rd. By registering early, it helps us in creating our staffing needs, so we thank you in advance.
We would love to see you at our PTA meeting tomorrow night (Monday, April 19th) at 7:00pm (link below in calendar dates) as we elect new members for select positions. We thank our PTA greatly for being extremely creative during these challenging times and helping create some normal during a very abnormal time. We look forward to next year in hopefully bringing back many of the long-standing Brookdale traditions we have missed this year!
It will be a fast 34 days, but we look forward to cherishing each one of them with our Bobcats! Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Keeley Schmid
Principal
UPDATES
Deadline for Switching Learning Platforms
We have been extremely pleased with our 9-3pm expanded learning model. We have been happy to welcome students to in-person learning. Though we have worked hard to accommodate additional students, we are not able to make any more changes to our schedule. Adding in-person students has a significant ripple effect on the teacher, on space, on lunch and many other things. We will not be able to accommodate any more in-person students after Friday, April 23. We appreciate your understanding. If you are interested in making a switch prior to the 23rd, please contact the main office.
Lunch Updates
If your child has a home lunch that requires silverware please be sure to pack it in his/her lunch. Organic Life does not provide silverware for home lunches.
As a reminder, all students can receive a school lunch for free. More information regarding the school lunch can be found in the "Reminders" section below.

Recognize a teacher or staff member during Teacher Appreciation Week
The Indian Prairie Parents’ Council (IPPC) is partnering with local businesses to recognize District 204 teachers and staff members for Teacher Appreciation Week, May 3 – 7. Parents and community members can honor school personnel who have made a difference this year, while also supporting local businesses and students in need. Each $25 donation allows you to honor your favorite teacher with a heartfelt note and a $20 gift card from a local business that you select from the list provided. Your note and gift card will be delivered directly to your teacher. $5 of your donation will help support the IPPC annual school supply drive to assist students in need. Orders are being taken now through April 23, 2021. There is no limit on the number of teachers or staff members you can recognize. Delivery by the end of May. Order here.

Self-Certification Reminder
We ask that parents please remember to complete self-certification before students arrive at school each morning. COVID-19 rates are increasing in our area, and it is important that parents monitor the health of their children and keep them home if they are not feeling well. Since we are following the new guidance of reducing distancing from 6 feet to 3 feet in some classrooms, more students will need to quarantine if an individual in the classroom tests positive. Please help keep our school community healthy as more students return to the classroom.
Interested in a daily morning text Remind(er) to Self-Certify your student(s) who will be attending in-person? If so, sign up for a reminder text! Text @bkdlsc to the number 81010. You will receive a welcome text from Remind and a reminder each morning from Brookdale!
Welcome Class of 2034!
Official registration will begin May 3rd. Please complete the form at the following link so we can share important information with you prior to registration. https://forms.gle/sjgCVBZgY1MR4Mhy6
Residency Verification Process
The district is again contracting with a third party vendor to automatically verify student address information. As was the case last year, we anticipate the overwhelming majority of our families will be electronically verified.
If your residency is electronically verified, you will receive a letter of confirmation and there will be no need to submit any additional paperwork to certify that you live within the district’s boundaries.
A letter will also be sent to families whose residency we are unable to verify electronically. The letter will provide details on additional information you will need to provide by May 3, 2021 in order to register your child for the upcoming school year.
Verifying residency is an effort to protect taxpayers and district resources by identifying non-residents attending District 204 schools. Illinois law mandates that parents demonstrate residency prior to enrollment in school and allows for periodic verification to validate compliance with the law.
