What you really need to know
Our first Early Release day will be on Tuesday, September 26 at 12:15. PM KASE will not be in session. Kindergarten will be lined up and ready to depart by 12:05 if you plan to pick up at one of the rear exits: Ardmore (kindergarten playground door) or Wellesley Ave. (teacher's parking lot /rear door). Car line pickup begins at 12:15 at the front entrance. Choose car line if you do not want to walk, park, or exit your car. Please look for an early release form in your child's orange folder this week. Indicate your preferred dismissal location (there's a list of options on the form, including school pickup at 12:15, NEDP, buses for Tuesday bus pass holders and vans to TBS and Carter) and return the form by Friday so I know where everyone should go!
Thanks for your enthusiastic participation in our September Book Order :) Your participation earned us a box of comic style readers I've been coveting for our class and a free mini-book for every student. The next flyers will come to you via your child's orange folder this week. October orders are due on Friday, 10/6.
Fall conferences days are designated for three mornings: October 26, November 8, and December 7, when we will have NO MORNING KINDERGARTEN. I will also offer some slots on December 6, which is a delayed start for grades 1-5, but is also a NO MORNING KINDERGARTEN Day for us. Sign up is now live on our Bloomz calendar. Please choose one 20 minute time slot.
Thank you to our first Mystery Reader, Julie Levine who shared one of Molly's favorite stories: Freckle Faced Strawberry.

All in a days work...
- We are getting the hang of managing our daily must-do and choices. Choices so far have included blocks, legos, dramatic play in our pizza place, building with math materials, checking out the science center, drawing and writing, playdo, the puppet theater, and searching for hidden letters in the sensory table.
- We played a dice rolling math game with our math partners. We are learning how to write numerals 1, 2, and 3 the kindergarten way. Always start at the top!
- We tried our hand at some more directed drawing to make very realistic self portraits.
- Mrs. Cohen got a mysterious present and had to keep unwrapping box after box to finally get to the contents inside. It was a 24 piece puzzle that we all had to help put together. And we learned about PERSEVERANCE along the way.
- We made and read our own books about Pete the Cat.
- We learned a song with everyone's name in it and we found out how many of us have pets, want pets, or don't want pets. We also danced around a lot! Our favorite dance so far is "If You're a Kid".
- We wrote our first weekend news reports. You'll be amazed at how our writing and storytelling will progress throughout the year.

The things kids say. For real.
Mrs. Cohen: Tell me something you would draw on your face to make it look real.
Student 1: Am I supposed to draw on my face?
Mrs. Cohen: Good point.
Um. Teacher do-over.
