Announcement: Athletic Gym Shoes Are Required.
Supportive athletic gym shoes that fasten with velcro or shoe laces are required for all Physical Education classes. If students do not have gym shoes, they may need to sit out depending on the activity for the day and the student's particular shoes for the day. Student safety is our top priority! Students may leave an extra pair at school or bring them from home every day. Students may wear the same gym shoes they wear to school to P.E. class.

Our Students Are Amazingly Active!
Your student has Physical Education class every day for 30 minutes. This may take place in our beautiful new gym or our awesome outdoor fields.
Students begin class with a warm-up. Our warm-up can be a variety of activities from jogging a few laps around the gym to playing a game to grabbing a ball and dribbling. Students then gather for instruction. We work on our physical skills and learning concepts for the day. After our main activity, we do a cool down which can include walking and stretching. We end our day with a closure to review what we learned that day.
Students have been reviewing expectations. We have discussed what being respectful, responsible and safe looks like in the gym. Safety is a top priority in P.E. class!
Students have been doing an excellent job and I am very proud of our start to the year!
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

We’re off to a GREAT start!
We’ve started the year with lots of fun, active games to practice moving in our space (it’s so great to have our full gyms back!) and active ways to practice listening and following directions. We’ve also been talking about how our Oakland expectations of being safe, respectful, and responsible relate specifically to the gym and PE.
We usually begin class with a short warmup before moving on to instruction and then our activity or game for the day to practice the skills we’re working on. We try to wrap up each class with a short cool down as we review and discuss what went well and what we’re working to improve.
I’ve been so impressed with our students’ enthusiasm and effort as we get back into the swing of things! It’s been a great start, and it’s going to be a fun and exciting year!
Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Injuries
If a student is injured outside of school and you feel they need to sit out of P.E. class, please write a note and send it in with your child that morning. The note should be turned into the front office in the morning. The front office will make copies and disperse to the nurse, P.E. teachers and recess supervisors. Students can sit out of P.E. class two days in a row with a parent note. (Please send in a note for each day.) If a student needs to sit out 3 or more days in a row, a doctor's note is required. This is district policy and can be found in the student handbook.
