Our Fantastic Fifth Week
Plus Information About Week Six
What's happening in class? Week of September 28-October 2
Writing: continue discussing personal narratives...making sure students practice "magnifying" and "telescoping" down to a moment in time; paragraph writing - linear vs. starred...Parents, make sure to ask your students about this!
Reading: continue practicing inferring...learning how to collect clues from a story that helps us understand characters
Grammar: sentence fragments
Math: We will complete Bundle 2 material and review for the next test on Monday. The students will take Bundle 2 test on TUESDAY. We've been working hard with models, money, number lines, place value charts, and pictures to learn about decimal numbers. The end of the week will be filled with "Fraction Fringe" (you'll see that soon) and computer time with First in Math. Our next bundle will be on Fractions!
Social Studies: We have a new adoption this year called Texas Studies Weekly. They are newspaper type pages with colorful pictures and engaging articles. I'm looking forward to using these this year! This week we are comparing ways of life of American Indian groups in Texas. Students will describe and identify ways these groups modified their environment and used the natural resources of the regions to survive.
