Walled Lake Consolidated School District Update: February 16, 2023

Dr. Bernia to host Community Conversations
Since joining the District in October 2022, Dr. Bernia has been hard at work connecting with stakeholders in our school buildings including staff and students. The next step in his process is to get out into the community and connect with families and community members. Dates, times and locations for the upcoming Community Conversations are listed below:
- February 16 at the Wixom Public Library from 2-3pm
- March 1 at the Walled Lake City Library from 6-7pm
We hope everyone in the community will be able to attend and meet Dr. Bernia, share thoughts about the District, and learn more about his vision for the District moving forward. We hope to see you there!
District to host Community Engagement Sessions with Plante Moran CRESA
During the January Board of Education, the Board approved District administration to embark on a facility utilization study in 2023. The District has partnered with Plante Moran CRESA (PMC) to facilitate the study. As part of their process, PMC will be hosting three community engagement sessions with stakeholders from across the District during the month of February.
The final Community Engagement Session will be held at WL Western High School on February 28 at 6:30pm in the media center.
The District encourages families, students, staff and community members to attend these session and share their feedback.

District News:
Seven wrestlers advance to MHSAA Individual Regionals
Walled Lake Consolidated Schools will have seven wrestlers hit the mat this weekend at the MHSAA Individual Regional Championships.
Walled Lake Northern has three wrestlers headed to Hartland for the Division 1, Region 1 championships on Saturday: Brycen Anderson (175 lbs.), Colin Katula (144 lbs.), and Hunter Dreisbach (150 lbs.).
Four wrestlers will represent Walled Lake Western in Division 2. The boys’ Region 8 Championships will take place at Warren Woods Tower, where Liam Vaughan (285 lbs.) and brothers Nathan (120 lbs.) and Nicholas Vo (113 lbs.) will look to take home a regional crown.
Meaghan Robertson will also make history as the Warriors first female wrestler to compete at the MHSAA girls’ regional championships, which takes place on Sunday.

Walled Lake Athletes Committing to Play at the College Level
Year-end presents a great opportunity to celebrate our top senior student athletes and their opportunity to continue their athletic careers in college.
Please provide the following information on SENIOR athletes that have either:
- received a scholarship to play college athletics
- have a spot guaranteed to them on a college roster as a "preferred walk-on."
Signing Up for SMS Messages via Skylert
In addition to receiving phone calls and email notifications from the school district in the event of a school closing or emergency, parents can also sign up to receive SMS Text messages.
