Gun Control
IT'S NOT ABOUT THE GUNS IT'S ABOUT CONTROL
Presence Of Guns Makes Conflict More Violent
In many situations our emotions gets the best of us causing us to react upon our feelings in the heating moment. In the U.S. two-thirds of the 7,900 deaths in 1981 involving arguments and brawls were caused by guns. The FBI found that in 2013 arguments (such as romantic triangles, brawls fueled by drugs or alcohol, or money) resulted in 1,962 gun deaths (59.9% of the total). [American Journal of Public Health]
Reduce Number Of Accidental Gun Deaths
Having fewer guns would reduce the number of deaths. Approximately 50% of unintentional fatal shootings were self-inflicted and most of the firearm deaths were caused by friends or family members. Guns have nine times the amount of accidental gun deaths and "89% of unintentional shooting deaths of children occur in the home -most of these occur when children are playing with a loaded gun in their parents absence. According to the [Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence and the National Physicians Alliance]
More Gun Laws Are Needed To Protect Women From Domestic Abusers/ Stalkers
Enforcing more gun control laws would decrease the risk of women being injured or killed with the presence of guns. Five women are murdered with guns everyday in the U.S. A women's risk of being murdered increases 500% if a gun is present during a domestic dispute. Between 2001- 2012 6,410 women are killed by an intimate partner. A 2003 study of 23 populous high income countries found 86% of women killed by firearms we in the United States and women are 11.4 times more likely to be the victims of gun homicides 57% of mass shootings involved domestic violence. This graph shows how may people agree or disagree with enforcing stricter gun laws. It seems as though the majority says yes to stricter gun laws, very few says no, and those you say kept as now are average but are agreeing more towards more strict.
This graph shows the number of gun homicides by weapon type. As you can see more than 50% of the graph are mainly cause by handgun homicides. Other types of guns such as rifles and shotguns are also used but not as often as handguns, even the unknown and other homicides add together doesn't come close to the amount of handguns.
